YOUR DRINKING WATER

(Not this water - your drinking water !)

COLLIER COUNTY DRINKING WATER NAMED BEST TASTING IN SOUTHWEST FLORIDA

The Collier County Water Division produces the best tasting water in Southwest Florida, according to a panel of judges at the Florida Section of the American Water Works Association’s (FSAWWA) Best Tasting Drinking Water Contest – Region V.

Collier County’s drinking water was chosen as the best on Tuesday, April 14, during a blind taste test from among six samples submitted by water utilities from Collier, Lee and portions of Hendry counties.

This is not the first time Collier County’s water has been awarded the best tasting by the FSAWWA. The county won the state contest in 2012.

Under strict rules, each participating water utility submits a gallon of water for judging. Samples of the water are collected from the utility’s distribution system no more than 24 hours prior to the event and are tasted at room temperature to allow any strong tastes or odors to be detected more easily.

Water utilities submitting samples affirm there have been no state or federal drinking water violations for the current and prior calendar year in order to compete.

“We are pleased that Collier County’s water has been judged as the best tasting in the region,” said Public Utilities Department Head Dr. George Yilmaz. “This honor is an outstanding achievement for our utility team members in the field and our plants working 24/7/365.”

Collier County will now go on to compete in the FSAWWA state competition next month in Orlando.
