THEFT REPORTED - KEEP YOUR EYES OPEN

We have all heard the expression: "Keep your Eyes Open." That holds very true in our community. It is a phrase often stated to and by our Neighborhood Watch groups.

This is mentioned as the Sheriff has been busy protecting us in and out of our local environment. The sad news is an arrest was reportedly made a couple of days ago for "Grand Theft" inside our gates. Fortunately the "Bad Guy" is in custody, and the "Good Guy's" are holding the jail key, just not the one pictured.

The perp apparently was looking for employment and took advantage of the interview process when left alone. While there is more to the story the full details have not been released.

This neighborhood news is being stated here as a simple reminder to everyone: Lock your car, Lock your house, and always "Keep your Eyes Open." Thanks to our "Safety Guy's" for giving us this reminder.

HAVE A LAUGH

This is cute. It was sent to us by a good V. W. Neighbor. Hope you enjoy the humor.

EVER SINCE I WAS A CHILD, I'VE ALWAYS HAD A FEAR OF SOMEONE UNDER MY BED AT NIGHT. SO I WENT TO A SHRINK AND TOLD HIM,

'I've got problems. Every time I go to bed I think there's somebody under it. I'm scared. I think I'm going crazy.'

'Just put yourself in my hands for one year,' said the shrink.. 'Come talk to me three times a week and we should be able to get rid of
those fears...'

'How much do you charge?' 'Eighty dollars per visit,' replied the doctor. 'I'll sleep on it,' I said.

Six months later the doctor met me on the street. 'Why didn't you come to see me about those fears you were having?' he asked.

'Well, Eighty bucks a visit three times a week for a year is an awful lot of money! A bartender cured me for $10. I was so happy to have saved all that money that I went and bought me a new pickup!'

'Is that so!' With a bit of an attitude he said, 'and how, may I ask, did a bartender cure you?'

'He told me to cut the legs off the bed! - Ain't nobody under there now!!!'

SHOPPING AT SAWGRASS MALL

Our visit wanted to go shopping, in addition to the beach, so "Her wish was our command."

One day we all got up early and chased across Alligator Alley to the East Shore. From there it was a short distance to the stores in Sawgrass Mall. Well Miss Cassidy enjoyed herself and even had the "Old Guy" smiling and into the store scene.

After buying the place out we did lunch at the Rainforest Cafe and then back home. The Beach followed later in the week. That too was enjoyable. But all good things must end, and time ran out on Cassidy's visit. It's only a day since she left, but she is already missed.

WATER LEVEL

Just before the first Hurricane the neighbors usually start the chatter of: "How high is the canal," or "Are the pumps working?"

This year I hear none of that noise. That's OK. The water level is OK too.

The water and grass both look nice, and are a pleasure to look at on a daily basis. Just don't get too close to shore. Someone may be "looking" for you.

CASSIDY GETS THE OLD FOLK MOVING

We are having a visitor for ten days from New Jersey. It's our granddaughter: Cassidy.

She is getting the "Old Folk's" moving and feeling young. We had a great time at the beach, and also by the Pier for sunset. As of now we are ready for more fun with her.

ICE CREAM SOCIAL

Town Center was the location for this years' Ice Cream Social. The doors opened around 6:00 PM and it didn't take long for approximately 60 people to fill the tables and enjoy some good conversation as well as some great Ice Cream. This Lady didn't have to pull the Old Guy too much to get him to enjoy the night.

ALL STAR GAME

No Women allowed ! It was baseball night. In fact it was the All Star Game. So with no interference I created an atmosphere where the game could be enjoyed with proper food and drink, and of course my buddy. As one can see it didn't take much to get him into that sausage sandwich, and a good drink.

CAN I BE A CERT TEAM MEMBER?

The answer is "No". That is even said. before the question gets asked kiddo. You can't join the CERT Team !

It is well established that you have an interest in helping your community. You even have your very own uniform - at least a hat. Where did you get it anyway?

For now you just have to wait. Your Mom won't let you out of the house to attend monthly meetings. In addition to that you are not receiving a, semi required, social security check.

You are just too young !

The team might let you join in a few years especially if you keep that antique Civil Defense Hat and nice gold badge in good shape.

JERSEY TWINS MARK ANOTHER BIRTHDAY

We missed seeing the Little Guy's during our visit to Jersey a few weeks ago, but we won't let their birthday slide by without being recognized here. Happy Birthday - Joey & Ricky.

Pretty soon it will be time to start school. Hope you are looking forward to that.

REMEMBER "JERSEY JOE" AT POOLSIDE AUG. 15

Next month "Jersey Joe" will headline an event at the local pool. The date to remember is Aug. 15.

In addition to some fine music a meal that features: Corn on the Cob & a Fish Fry will be offered for $16. "Joe" knows his food and will certainly take some time to join in with friends at mealtime. We just must make sure he gets back to work.

This event sounds like justification to start saving to buy a ticket to see our friend.

Pray for "No Hurricane."

HE IS A STAR

Look who made the local paper. Our buddy Cameron.

He is in the "Citizen on the Move" section of the Collier Citizen.

The picture was taken a couple of weeks ago at Disney's "Splash Mountain." It was a dangerous and difficult picture to take for his number one fan - "Poppy." In the end it was well worth it.

Hope his the school doesn't learn he really wasn't that sick when we took him.

FORTY - THIRD ANNIVERSARY

Yes, another date to note. An Anniversary for the managers of this old blog.

This one is number forty - three (43). As they did back in 1967 a ride on the "Jungle Queen" was the plan of the day.

That is hard to believe as these kids appear to be ever so youthful with all that running near and far. But that is what it is all about - having fun. I'll drink to that !!!

Happy Anniversary !!!

OUR BUSINESS' ARE STILL CLOSED

What a knockout that a/c pipe caused our local merchants. Here we are in early July and the Bank, Convenience store and Travel Agency remain closed.

Last week a dumpster was on the scene taking out damaged wallboard and other material.

Hopefully the repairs will be complete by the end of this month, but we don't know for sure. My Lady is very anxious to go buy another lottery ticket. Maybe this time it will be a winner.

INDEPENDENCE WEEKEND AT MT DORA

This fourth of July was different from those of previous years. We usually stay at home or go somewhere close and watch the fireworks. Not the case this year.

A family get together in Apopka with Bar B Que was enough of an invitation to get the "Old
Guy" up and behind the wheel of the family limo and head North. Thank God traffic was OK.

Once again there was a lot of "catching up" with Cousins and Aunts and Uncles that have been hard to see during the course of a lifetime. He got two good pics of his Uncles, who he claims fought with General Washington. Top that off with great food and fireworks and one will conclude that we had a great time.

After the gang all went home our driver took us to Mt Dora. It was just up the road. The Lakeside Inn provide a great setting for a two night visit. The "Old Guy" fit in perfectly with all those antique stores. He had to be dragged out of one of them before he made another one of his great deals. Well the trip is over and again we settle for some nice "Pool Time" and enjoy life here in the "The Walk."

INDEPENDENCE DAY DANCE

Seven bucks was a great price to get the gang out for a fine Independence Day Celebration.

The scene was Town Center, which was nicely refurbished after the flood (broken pipe) a few weeks ago. All looked well, and the decorations had that patriotic flavor.

We had a good group occupying a table near the dance floor. They tried hard to keep the noise level high, but took appropriate time for the dance floor.

Food was prepared by the "Better Halves" and one must say it was excellent.

A number of us will also celebrate Sunday by going to the Beach for the fireworks. The spirits are high this holiday. Lets keep it that way.

JULY BIRTHDAYS

I got smacked in the back of the head when I asked "My Lady" if there were any birthdays to remember in July. As I came to I started to remember it "all by myself." The appropriate Birthday Posting will appear on her special day - Look for it.
