HAVE A LAUGH

Our neighbors do seem to spend a good deal of time on the computer looking at these jokes. We get a good dozen a month to review. This one is our choice for the month.

A young Arab asks his father:

http://www.istockphoto.com/file_thumbview_approve/4833925/2/istockphoto_4833925-arab-father-and-son.jpg

What is this weird hat that we are wearing?

Why, it's a "chechia" because in the desert it protects our heads from the sun!

And what is this type of clothing that we are wearing?

It's a "djellabah" because in the desert it is very hot and it protects your body!

And what are these ugly shoes that we have on our feet?

These are "babouches", which keep us from burning our feet when in the desert!

Tell me Father - " Why then are we living in Dearborn, Michigan and still wearing all this stuff?"

PULTE STOCK

We tracked this stock for a year and found it fun and interesting. Of course we did not make any money with it. None the less we will do it again in 2011.

At the end of December, and the year 2010, Pulte Stock closed at $7.46

The starting figure in January was $10.55 That is roughly a loss of 30%. The company is building as if the stock went up. Maybe it is time to purchase. As of the first of the year we will make a hypothetical purchase of 100 shares just to see how it goes in 2011. That will be 100 shares at $7.46 or $746 total investment.

PAUL ANKA SHOW

New Years Eve will be something different for the "Old Guy" across the street, and his Queen. No going out, or having the gang come to his home. This year They are going to a show at the Naples Philharmonic.

Somehow they got tickets to see a favorite of the Queen - Paul Anka.

It should be a good night. Reports from the area say Paul Anka still does a very good show. We hope it is a great night and great start for 2011.

SEASONAL GUEST

It's that time of they year when family and friends are on the move to enjoy Christmas with each other. We are no different, only we don't move that much.

We will enjoy the holiday with our daughter who lives here, along with her three angels (Well it is Christmas so just maybe they will act like angels).

In addition we will have another daughter "Drop in" on us for a few days. Hope she doesn't crash into that funny sleigh powered by reindeer.

PIZZA FOR CERT TEAM

For the second year in a row the Community C.E.R.T. Team had a Pizza Party. It was at Town Center. The event took place on Thursday (Dec 23).

Our neighbor was present along with several friends and neighbors. There were roughly forty people there including one special friend "from the (old) job." They traded smiles and joined with everyone to have a great time.

Pizza was delivered by Rick's Place. Because we were so close to the oven it was hot, just the way it should be. We were told there wasn't a single piece left. That's great.

Our little guy was a tad sad that he couldn't go. He says he practices real hard with that ancient fire extinguisher his grandfather has, but still he must wait a few more years. We will keep him motivated and his fire extinguisher ready.

SNAKE AT TOWN CENTER

You had to be there to know about this story. It seems a long, slim, slithery creature was found around noon time on Friday (17Th). No doubt about it - It was a Rattle Snake. This critter had the real tail unlike the one in that TV commercial.

The Lady thought she heard "Rat." She stared out the window of Rick's Place looking over toward the convenience store for quite a few minutes before it became clear to her that what was said was: "They caught a snake." I was said to be about five feet in Length.

Maintenance workers came to help the man, who somehow got a plastic barrel over the critter. The workers slid a piece of plywood under the barrel, then lifted it up. They took the barrel, and snake, to a distant location, and, we presume, released it. Good bye, and Thank God no one hurt.

Our Safety Team told us to remind our friends to keep their eyes open at all times. With the building going on around us these creatures and other s are looking for space to call home.. Do not engage anything you see. Step back and get away from it.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY - LJ

December is a tough month to have a birthday. Our Princess will tell you that. Either you don't get enough "Spot Light" or your gift might get combined with your Christmas gift.

Well L .J. taught us 25 years ago: Birthday is Birthday; and Christmas is Christmas. That means TWO GIFTS.

Well today is your day, and you have been properly spotlighted here. Hope you enjoy the day.

By the way your father was thinking about a Lexus, only if he could combine presents. He was told very clearly: "No Way" (by Editor in Chief).

NAPLES BOAT PARADE

On Saturday (Dec 11) a group from the community spent the night at Tin City getting in the Holiday Mood.

The first order of business was a great dinner at The RiverWalk. While we ate we had a great view of the Boats on the Gordon River getting ready for the parade.

Dinner was followed by a trip on the Double Sunshine into Naples Bay. We saw all the boats and heard quite a few. We got a few pictures which tell the story of a great night.

BEST SHOTS FROM CRUISE: FINAL SEGMENT

After Pisa our tour group visited Rome, then Athens, and finally Turkey.

The Greek Island of Santorini was sandwiched in between the above major visits. It was quite nice, and quit high. Although it was beautiful it just didn't hit the eye in the same way as the above historical locations so the "best Shots" here will be limited to the Colosseum, Acropolis, and the Home of the Virgin Mary.

Now that the picture review is complete it is back to seasonal shopping and related matters.

LOCAL NEIGHBORS PARTY AND SING CHRISTMAS SONGS

One of our neighborhood reporter's observed a Christmas Party in the area of Novarra Ct. on Tuesday Evening.

The mood was Christmas alright. Lights were on the trees, the flower pots, and Garage. If it didn't move it had a light on it. Red, Green, and White everywhere one looked. FPL is sure happy about that.

Outside the temperature was cold. All that was needed was that little rain deer leading a big old sleigh through some snow.

Inside the temperature was much better, and the folks gathered around the tree to sing songs for a couple of hours. The TV screen showed the words, and our friend, Jersey Joe strummed his guitar and helped everyone reach the high notes.

This was a great time, and it was enjoyed by all.

COUNTRY SONG BY JERSEY JOE

We have been informed that our local hero was shopping recently at Costco. There he discovered caskets were for sale. They can be viewed on the way out of the store, next to a selection of plantation shutters.

Jersey Joe was so inspired he found this tune which he sent us to share with our local friends.

Listen to the song, but there is no need to rush to Costco for these items.

PEARL HARBOR

War Poster - Pearl Harbor

Most of the local neighbors were infants or just kids when Pearl Harbor was attacked.

Despite the fact that we were so young and not in touch with the reality of Dec. 7, 1941 we learned about that day. Today we can recall that event as if it just happened.

Remembering our history is good. Learning from these events is also good. Take a second and remember this day and its impact on us.

God Bless the USA.

CHRISTMAS TREE LIGHTING

There was a Community CHRISTMAS TREE lighting yesterday at Town Center.

The festivities ran from 7:00 to 8:30. Residents got to place their own ornament on the tree, and were entertained by The Mismatched Socks.

Coffee and dessert topped the evening.

MORE "BEST SHOTS" FROM EUROPEAN CRUISE

The recent two week trip made to EUROPE, and ASIA, made its first "port of call" in France.
There were several land tours available, and one went to the seaside town of Cassie. The picture that we like the most is of the local harbor surrounded by its colorful buildings.

The next "port of call" was in Italy. This was one of the major reasons for traveling in the first place. Here we saw and climbed the famous Tower and took this picture (and a ton more).

The painting on the ceiling inside the Cathedral is the final shot in this post.

LOTTO WINNER

The big winner so far at Mattie's Place is $500.

This figure is since our convenience store re-opened after the flood. It's found money for someone, and a reason to take a chance yourself.

This Lady is going to check the Old Guy's wallet and buy a few with high hopes. Maybe he just might get a Klondike Bar.

MAGNUS MVP

The news was just received from New Jersey. The Lady's grandson was named Most Valuable Player by his teammates.

Magnus plays for the Wallkill Valley Team. They are located in North N.J.

He is a good kid and does his homework too. We are proud of him !!!

BEST SHOTS FROM MEDITERRANEAN

This is the first post on that great cruise around Europe. It will take a couple more to give everyone a glimpse at those great areas we visited.

Our first stop was Barcelona. We stayed there for a couple of days and had plenty of time to see areas of interest.

These pictures are of the Olympic Colosseum, The Cathedral by Gaudi still under construction.

A couple other shots include some nice views, and Columbus Arch

Her baby, and THE Current Princess, is celebrating her 25th this month.

Look for her picture around mid month.

HAVE A LAUGH

The king of neighborhood jokes sent this over for our friends to enjoy. It is on the subject of:

Women Drivers

This morning on the Interstate, I looked over to my left and there was a
Woman In a brand new Cadillac Doing 65 mph With her Face up next to her
Rear view mirror Putting on her eyeliner.

I looked away for a couple seconds to continue shaving
And when I looked back she was halfway over in my lane, Still working on that makeup.

As a man, I don't scare easily. But she scared me so much: I dropped
My Electric Shaver - Which knocked The donut Out of my other hand.

In all The confusion of trying To straighten out the car with my knees against
The steering wheel, It knocked My Cell Phone Away from my ear Which fell
Into the coffee Between my legs! Splashed, And burned quite a bit. Ruined the darn phone, Soaked my trousers, And disconnected an Important call. ........

Darn women drivers!

POPE BLESSES OUR TRAVELERS

The group from VeronaWalk has returned from a great time going from Port to Port on the Mediterranean. There were around 100 residents that returned home on the 24Th (1:30 AM).

Our Publisher brought a blessing from Rome for everyone, along with this picture that was captured at the Vatican.

More pictures will follow over the next few days.

NEW BUDGET FOR RESIDENTS

That letter the usually comes near the end of year arrived early in November. It reflects the new budget, and monthly rates for our community.

Read it closely and know what you are paying for. It looks like there has been an increase for most home owners around $20. to $30 or more per quarter. Looking at this increase on a monthly basis it is right around $10. per month.

It is what it is. Some communities are much higher and they are feeling the effects of foreclosed properties that they (we) must cover. Here the total cost to the community is $40K. It sounds bad, but in terms of a per person cost this is less than the proverbial drop in the bucket.

An additional cost for next year, at $2. per month is the weed removal in the pavers. This will save not just the "Round up" or "Weed B Gone" costs, but the labor. I'd rather watch this work then do it, but that's just me. I know the Boss is going to be happy not having to do all that work.

This is a good community, and that which there is to complain about is just something we can deal with. That's good.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING

This is one of the best holidays of the year. Family members usually fly or drive in from somewhere to Eat, Drink, and Visit. Some have a drink, and that's OK. It is deserved.

The picture is from a previous holiday when everyone was present. We need to do this again. Thanks for sending it down.

The TV in our home gets some heavy use too on thanksgiving. Of course that is always secondary to the above reason to get together - FOOTBALL.

The "Old Guy" in this house gets stressed trying to figure out: Drum stick, Olive, and what channel to put on. He is so lucky that this Lady has things under control.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING to our family up North and our friends (You too Bruno) here in VeronaWalk.

BIRTHDAY WISHES TO A FRIEND

Now I know the boss won't see this until he is back home, but if I don't do this in a timely fashion I could be out of a job. So from the 'good old neighbor', and the Bosses pal, from the job, HAPPY, HAPPY, BIRTHDAY !

Thank God Birthday Boy's Pal can really sing. I am sure the good wishes were heard all the way over in Europe.

Here is a tune the Boss likes. That is the record player he still uses. Hope you all enjoy the song, and again HAPPY, HAPPY BIRTHDAY.

LONE SHOOTER THEORY STILL WITH US

On the 22nd it will be 47 years since the day JFK was shot in Dallas.

Does everyone remember the moment when Oswald made his fatal shot?

Time does blur somethings, but I believe it was a Friday, somewhere around 11:30/12:00 East Coast time. The shot stopped my day. It was like the Twilight Zone. Nothing seemed to happen all weekend.

The incident gets minimal coverage these days. The young kids don't even (OK, some do) know who Kennedy was. That is a sign of our present day. Kinda strange.

Maybe some of us "Old Timers" can take a moment and reflect on NOW and THEN. It is just a thought.

I WANT TO BE A FIREMAN

The Boss would probably have a fit if he knew that during his cruise I let his grandson (and his Mom) into the house.

Mom played on the boss' computer which was OK, but I let the kid into the wrong places. He was happy to borrow a badge (he had a huge choice) and then drag that big old fire extinguiosher outside for picture time.

Maybe he will be a Fireman, Cop or on the CERT Team. He has an interest in all of them. Well don't tell the Boss about this.

TOUCHDOWN !!

The Lady said, if I didn't have anything to write just put something in about her grandsons and their football heroics.

Well I found this touchdown run that exceeds the current play of those nice kids.

Maybe this one will inspire them to be "all they can be."

DO YOU LIKE TO EAT OUT?

The instruction, when "They" took off was: "Just write a short something of interest" every couple of days, and don't make any references to Mr. B____. I don't know what that is all about, but I'll be careful.

Anyway checking the Boss's computer I found this text link for restaurant coupons. Now that even interests this neighbor who is on a fixed income, and likes a bargain. I looked at it and found it interesting. Check it out if you know how to text. There is also a web page that can be found using Google.

JASON - HAPPY BIRTHDAY

We all must be getting older as even that youngster, Jason, is hitting an age that doesn't attract the attention it used to get.

He is now focused on "kid's" and their birthdays and building castles for them to enjoy.

Today, however, is his day. We hope he takes some time to just enjoy it. He has earned it.

Happy Birthday Jason ! Now go play in that castle all by yourself.

THE KID IS STILL PLAYING WELL

An email came in a little bit ago informing the Lady & Old Guy that their Grandson had a recent game where on defense he picked one off and did that TD Dance in the End Zone. No flags.

This neighbor is sure "they" would write more about, but I am just happy to have the picture thing work, and say "Good Job Young Man."

SEVEN DOLLAR DANCE - NOV.5, 2010

These Dances are Good.

We attended another great dance on Friday the 5Th. As always we brought something to the table for all to share including our favorite "BYOB" item. There was plenty of cheese and crackers, and wine too. No wonder "The Boss" said he'd pick up the tab.

The atmosphere was relaxed. The conversations with friends and neighbors makes these events something like a good old party at home. The music was good, but the volume (from this point of view) was on the loud side.

This neighbor certainly enjoyed the night, and writing this little piece while filling in as editor/publisher. Several friends were there, but Dino couldn't make it. We had a great time.

PUBLISHER OFF AGAIN

The wait for over one year has finally come to an end. The "Bosses" are heading to Spain with a 100+ neighbors and will be leaving things in the hands of this Trusty Old Neighbor.

I'll be brief with the posts if you guys give me a break with the commentary (especially you buno). Just put a smile on and have a good day, and maybe go out and see a sunset. Hope everyone on the cruise has a good time.

CANCER BENEFIT TONIGHT

Members of our Community will be attending a benefit tonight at Town Center.

The Troubadour's will perform for residents who for the benefit of a local facility working with cancer. The picture above is from last year.

Our local restaurant, Rick's Place, is making a large Bavarian Cake for the after show festivities. Residents also brought cakes to share with neighbors.

TRUNK OR TREAT

Our community has a centralized Halloween Event which really works out great for parents, kids and every one's safety concerns.

Between 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM there is a party indoors for all kids at Town Center. The kids compete for best costume. The winner leads the group outside where neighbors have set up to hand out Halloween candy.

The parents set up there cars with appropriate decor as the pictures reveal.

We observed one little kid who came for candy. She refused to put on her costume, so she carried - most of the time. She got a lot of candy and eventually put on a big smile.

This was a great night.

DON"T FORGET TO VOTE

Today is Election Day - Nov. 2, 2010.

If my friends and neighbors have not taken advantage of Early Voting it is time to shake a leg and get out to the ballot box.

Just VOTE.

NOVEMBER: DATES TO REMEMBER

As always the Lady gets to supply the names and dates to be recognized here. Always number one is the "OLD GUY". Added to the list is the birthday of the son-in-law, and a couple of grandchildren. They will get the post on the appropriate date.

HAVE A LAUGH

This cute joke was sent to us by a neighbor with a great set of wheels that he locks up when not driving. Enjoy the story, and watch your car.

A young blond girl in her late teens, wanting to earn some extra money for the summer, decided to hire herself out as a "handy woman" and started canvassing a nearby well-to-do neighborhood.

She went to the front door of the first house and asked the owner if he had any odd jobs for her to do.

"Well, I guess I could use somebody to paint the porch" he said. "How much will you charge me?"

Delighted, the girl quickly responded, "How about $50?"

The man agreed and told her that the paint and brushes and everything she would need were in the garage.

The man's wife, hearing the conversation, said to her husband, "Does she realize that our porch goes ALL the way around the house?"

"That's a bit cynical, isn't it?" he responded.

The wife replied, "You're right. I guess I'm starting to believe all those dumb blond jokes."

A few hours later the blond came to the door to collect her money.

"You're finished already??" the startled husband asked.

"Yes," the blond replied, "and I even had paint left over so I gave it two coats."

Impressed, the man reached into his pocket for the $50 and handed it to her along with a $10 tip.

"Thank you," the blond said, "And, by the way, it's not a Porch, it's a Lexus."

TOWN CENTER HOSTS HALOWEEN DANCE

Yesterday there was a Dance at Town Center. naturally the theme was Halloween. Over one hundred residents were there, and most had on there pumpkin ORANGE.

Dinner was served by Rick's Place. The meal was topped off with a great cake that was well worth a second if it could be found.

Billy Dee and Dawn provided the entertainment and they did a great job. Our neighbors were impressed with a great Saxophone sound, and a young lady who hit high notes in a wonderful way. Even this Lady's grumpy "Old Guy" enjoyed the music, but he refused to put on a costume without a prior approval from the community fashion consultant. At least I got him in a colorful Frankenstein shirt, and he said dancing counts as exercise.

At the end of the evening prizes were given out for 50/50, and best costumes. Hope our friend and neighbors enjoy the pictures.
