HAVE A LAUGH: IS THIS POLITICALLY CORRECT ?

A neighbor sent this to be shared. He said it has gone around a few times before so you may have seen it. Try to laugh a little as you read it, because getting angry isn't going to help.

The neighbor's emails starts as follows - "LET ME SEE IF I GOT THIS RIGHT:

IF YOU CROSS THE NORTH KOREAN BORDER ILLEGALLY YOU GET 12 YEARS HARD LABOR.

IF YOU CROSS THE IRANIAN BORDER ILLEGALLY YOU ARE DETAINED INDEFINITELY.

IF YOU CROSS THE AFGHAN BORDER ILLEGALLY, YOU GET SHOT.

IF YOU CROSS THE SAUDI ARABIAN BORDER ILLEGALLY YOU WILL BE JAILED.

IF YOU CROSS THE CHINESE BORDER ILLEGALLY YOU MAY NEVER BE HEARD FROM AGAIN.

IF YOU CROSS THE VENEZUELAN BORDER ILLEGALLY YOU WILL BE BRANDED A SPY AND YOUR FATE WILL BE SEALED.

IF YOU CROSS THE CUBAN BORDER ILLEGALLY YOU WILL BE THROWN INTO POLITICAL PRISON TO ROT.

IF YOU CROSS THE U.S. BORDER ILLEGALLY YOU GET

* A DRIVERS LICENSE,

* SOCIAL SECURITY CARD,

* WELFARE,

* FOOD STAMPS,

* CREDIT CARDS,

* SUBSIDIZED RENT OR A LOAN TO BUY A HOUSE,

* FREE EDUCATION,

* FREE HEALTH CARE,

* A LOBBYIST IN WASHINGTON

* BILLIONS OF DOLLARS WORTH OF PUBLIC DOCUMENTS PRINTED IN YOUR LANGUAGE

* THE RIGHT TO CARRY YOUR COUNTRY'S FLAG WHILE YOU PROTEST THAT YOU DON'T GET ENOUGH RESPECT

* AND, IN SOME INSTANCES, YOU CAN VOTE."

DON'T FORGET TO DO THE REMEMBERING ON MEMORIAL DAY

Many of us have heard that the "first" day of Summer falls on Memorial Day, and ends Labor Day. Some still think like that, and look forward to having a great summer. Nothing wrong with that on one level, but it is worth, at a higher level, remembering the reason why the holiday was created.

It is a day to honor those not here today, those who served our Country.

In one Home in the Community the family remembers the Father who served in the Navy during World War II, and landed in a lifeboat for 28 days. It is something where there has been few words, but the Man and the incident are: Remembered.

LUAU A REAL BLAST

A huge disaster at Town Center almost sunk the planned Hawaiian Luau this past Sunday (5/23). Yet in the face of adversity our residents came together and had a great time.

The buffet was served at the rear of Rick's Place who served chicken and pork. The food was good.

There was poolside entertainment. The songs were from the 50's 60' and 70's. While many danced it seemed like everyone was at least taping their fingers or singing along. Some of the dancing consisted of a long line chugging around the pool.

There as no reason to be unhappy, yet there are always a few who like to dampen a good time. This event was no different. Our friend, using his Kodak Brownie 127, caught a couple of the gang doing their thing - this time with water pistols. Does it have to be said again - IT WAS A GOOD TIME !

COLLIER PANTHER DIES

A recent report in the Naples News revealed that first it was two Panther's that died recently, but now the total is three.

One of the great cat's was killed on US 41 near "The Iron Rhino." This cat wondered the area behind our community up to Marco Island. The most recent was near Manatee Rd.

These cats are rarely seen. They are beautiful to look at, if you are lucky enough to actually see one. They need us to keep a good eye out for them when driving. If we do the grandson, might someday, just see a real one rather then a cardboard tiger.

SPECIAL NEEDS ALERT

With Hurricane Season starting next month  residents are encouraged to take precautions in the event of a storm. Most of our people have attended various seminars and know what to do in order to be safe.  Unfortunately some people need help because of a special need. They need to know the information below.

Collier County has addressed the issue of “special needs” citizens. This concern is assigned to County Staff in the Emergency Management Department.

Emergency Management Staff will send help to “special needs” individuals if they are registered.  This requires that the person complete an initial data form, and then update it yearly. Further information may be obtained by calling:  252 8060 or using the web site below:

In VeronaWalk there are residents who have “Special Needs.” These individuals need to “self report,” who they are, first to the Emergency Management Staff, and then to our Town Manager. Their “needs” should also be identified.

TOWN CENTER FLOODED

TOWN CENTER FLOODED

Monday Night (May 14) was not a good night. While the weather was great outside, the "Merchants of Bad Luck" were at work inside Town Center. Reportedly a pipe in the air conditioning system burst sending water into the the main gathering place withinin our community. The pipe was said to be located above a supply closet in Town center.

The water moved into the business areas spilling water down the walls. As it did ceilings were heavily impacted along with rugs and walls. As a result Mattie's Place, CI Travel, and Fifth Third Bank are temporarily closed. The have posted informational notes on there doors. Town Center's cardroom, Main lobby, and ballroom also sustained heavy damage and also closed.

The East Naples Fire department was called during the hours between 8:00 PM and 9:00 PM. Our Town Manager was also contacted and arrived on the scene. Everyone came prepared and attacked the problem like the professional that the are.

"Bear's Plumbing Service" and "Fireservice Disaster Kleenup" were summoned to the Town Center by our Manager, and quickly started their jobs to stop the water and begin the restoration process.

Our Gym is in operation and residents can go there as usual. Activities have been curtailed. The Hawaiian Luau, was moved to Rick's Place, however a "One Time" use of our Ballroom has been granted for us. This is scheduled Sunday and check in has been moved to the entry by the Gazebo.That is good news and will allow us to end the week on a happy note !

FAREWELL FRIEND

Friday (May 14) was a tough day. My friend passed away during the early morning.

We had know each other ten years. We were neighbors both on Marco Island, and then here in "The Walk."

Over the years we taught each other many different things, and had more than one laugh. He wasn't into boating, but I got him aboard twice. It was that second little outing down to Cape Romano that always brought back a smile from both of us.

We had a great day at Romano. There was plenty of food, friends, and great weather. Then it was time to go home. We were the last boat out, and quickly got nowhere. The boat thumped and vibrated, but just would not move.

We coaxed it out, away from the shallow water, and hailed our friend in his boat. Close examination of the out drive revealed a broken prop. We demonstrated to each other the choice words that we knew how to use in this type of situation. He then he taught me how to say them in Italian.

The Heroes that we were dictated: Send the woman home in the other boat, and we will stay together and wait for my other best friend - Sea Tow. We had a long wait and chatted about everything one could imagine. After an hour or so I taught him some nautical words that he was eager to learn: "Use the Starboard Side, and not into the wind."

Sea Tow arrived at the scene, hooked us sailors up. Two hours later we were at my dock. The tow was over $700. I was so glad I had insurance that my smile lit the sky up. My buddy was a tad pale. The story of that day has been repeated over and over. I still can hear his laugh. The memory continues.

The Man played golf. He couldn't interest me one bit in this obsession. He said I could be his caddy and drive the golf cart. Still no interest did I have.

Over the last few months He finally got to me regarding the game. We'd go out and visit local consignment stores. He always came home with some sort of iron. I helped sneak it in to his house or hold in my car until it was safe. That was my first, and only, "Par." Now that is just another memory.

We played "Rummikub" over the last couple of years and in between moves I learned his magnificent skill at minding time. I thought he could have "tested" watches for some fine Swiss Watch Maker, because the man knew his "seconds."

It was usually near the end of the game, and certainly his turn, when he would fill the air with these words: "Just a Second Now," "I am going to be done in one move," "Hang on, I can see what I am going to do," "One second, OK," and "Don't rush me, I am almost done."

We all kidded about how long those "seconds" were. But you can't mess with time. It runs its' own course and calls its' own game. For my friend the game and time are over.

I miss him.

DISNEY PICTURES

We know they are beginning to all look alike. The place does look the same each time we go and that makes it easier to get around, but this time it was dressed up very nice as it was time for the annual Flower Festival.

You got to love these guys.

LOTTO

The big winner remains the same at Mattie's Place - $2000.

The wife keeps buying tickets hoping to beat the above amount, but I'll settle for one winner to just hang on the mirror inside the store.

STOP SIGNS

The permits and review process has now been completed. Stop signs have been installed at two new locations in the community.

The signs are located where "Josefa, " a street that runs in a "U" pattern, intersects "Sorrento .." One is to the North, and the other is to the South of Town Center.

The location of these signs is intended to slow drivers down on one of the main streets. The new locations should achieve this goal, and be a benefit to the community. Our Safety Team supports the process of getting these signs and has pointed out that Safety Conscious drivers will also be a benefit to the community.

MANAGEMENT RETURNS

This old neighbor can finally get away from the keyboard and go back to fishing and reading. The bloggers are on their way home from their getaway. Now we will probably have to look at way too many pictures. That's life.

THE DREAM HAS DOCKED

We got a call from management. It seems that the cruise is over and the Ship, "The Dream" has landed - or docked.

They reported this was a great experience as they celebrated the "Boss's" Aunt and Uncle's 56Th wedding anniversary. That occasion made the fine wine taste even better.

For the next few days they will be riding a train in their kingdom.

KENTUCKY DERBY

This neighbor was given instructions to write something about the Old Horse Race. The problem is I don't know anything about horses and racing. It seems to me that it is just like NASCAR: Follow the rail and keep making left turns.

I hope those that have knowledge about the Derby put a couple of bucks on a horse that makes them a winner.

MAY'S BIRTHDAYS AND ANNIVERSARIES

Grandma knows how to check the calendar and can do this with out a "song and dance" from you know who. We have one birthday coming up this month, and it will be the grandson who teaches the old guy everything.

Look for his picture on the 22ND.
