RETIREMENT

The  "Verona Walk Resident" has reached the end of the road, and will enter,  an overdue but well deserved,  retirement.

Our blog got its' start in 2007 and had its' primary focus on the Community Family, as well as Our Personal Family. Over the years we posted pictures and commentary for the enjoyment of friends and family.

With a history of ten + years it is difficult to believe that this social experiment lasted a decade. As the owner it was an enjoyable hobby. It almost became a job, but did support and encourage an other hobby - photography.  That too has slowed and is resisting its' retirement.

This (writing the blog) has been fun, but it is time to call it "The End."  So long friends !

HORSE DUST

Some people called Horse "Shtuff" dust. That's because they don't want to use the gutter word for manure. All of that is to get you to the barn yard and horses.

This past Sunday, if you didn't see it on the front page of the Naples News, the Stable on Goodland Road had an open house. The were celebrating the "retirement" of two horses in their stable. Quite a day for these horses, but there is more to the story then their retirement.

The owners of the stable "rescue" horses which is quite an endeavor. These horses are used as part of the equestrian therapy offered by stable and professional staff. Their work was also celebrated on Sunday, with hot sandwiches and cookies.

Our grand-daughter attends once a week and has come along way. She loves the horses, and as the pictures show loves tigers too.

A BIT OF HUMOR: HAVE A LAUGH

We have not posted any neighborhood humor in a while, and to tell the truth I probably would not have shared this but I did smile and chuckle a little. I hope you do. Should you not like it just skip to next page or log out. Here it is:

Today, My wife said to me:

"Honey, get off your ass and fix that gutter downspout!
And, I want it done before the end of the day!"

Well, as you all know, at my age, and most of my friends, are retired and we do have the time to work on such "Honey do's"….

So, I invited some of my buddies over to help with the project.

One is a sheet metal worker.

One is a Iron Worker so he came with his welder.

One brought beer and Nachos.

One brought a grill and burgers.

Took us about 6 hours, and 30-40 beers, but we got it done just as we finished off the last of the beer and burgers.

As usual, the wife is still not happy !!

Can't understand, cause all us guys love it!

Personally, I cannot wait for it to rain

COYOTE'S TEAR RAIN PIPE FROM NEIGHBOR'S HOUSE

This rain pipe was ripped right off of the house up the street from us by a Coyote. There have been three incidents in here this last week. People have reported seeing a pack of three COYOTE'S running around in the late evening, and we also have had a bear 🐻I

We should call these guys "Smokey" (because of the fires in our Reserves) and "Wiley" (Coyote) and STAY INSIDE

EVERGLADES BOARDWALK

With the Grand daughter visiting, and now departed, I have some free hours with little to do. Rummy Kube just doesn't fill every hour of the day. So I have fooled around with some pictures and will post them here for your enjoyment.

They were from the Board Walk South on US 41 by the Indian Camp. Its a free walk in site with lots of animal life as you can see.

VETS HONORED AT SHULA"S

Dennis (Beyer) had the honor of being Master of Ceremonies for the VeronaWalk Gentlemen's Group's monthly luncheon. It was at SHULA's Steak House on Wednesday, April 5th.

Our group was honored to schedule Neighbor, Friend, and Vietnam Veteran Randy Kington to our lunch to recognize Vietnam Veterans. The group was surprised and happy to receive their awards.

Randy was assisted by Dennis Henderson, while I called out the names, and secured these pictures. Each of our Vets received a Proclamation from the President of the United States thanking them for their service

This was quite a great luncheon and the Prime Rib wasn't bad either.

COMPROMISED GATE

Last evening (Sunday) a Century Link Modem failed at the Gate House shutting down the entire system.

Century Link has been notified and will be here today (Monday) to correct the issue. Until the issue is corrected there is no way to reach the Gate House or enter any guests coming in.

The Gate House will do everything possible to let any service providers and guests into the property during this time. If they have questions, they will attempt to reach out to you. We are working to get this corrected as soon as possible.

Thanks in advance for your patience as we work to correct this issue.

This message, of course, does not apply to our pictured friend above.

STAFF VACATION

It's just that time again when we slow down and take some time off. The wife is taking the big silver bird to Newark (NJ) and will visit family and her mom for about two weeks. She usually "directs" that I place some sort of post on line.

Since She will be out of the office Your Chief Editor and Publisher (Its' great to be able to create titles for yourself) will devote some time to photography. Look out for a pictorial soon.

NEIGHBORHOOD HUMOR

Two old Jewish men, Sid and Abe, are sitting in a Mexican restaurant.

Sid asks Abe, “Do you know if any people of our ancestry were ever born and raised in Mexico?"

Abe replies, "I don't know."

When the waiter arrives, Abe asks, "Are there any Mexican Jews?"

The waiter says, "I don't know señor, I ask the cooks."

He returns from the kitchen after a few minutes and says, "No señor, the cook say no Mexican Jews."

Abe isn't satisfied and asks, "Are you absolutely sure?"

The waiter, realizing he is dealing with "gringos" replies, "I check once again, señor," and goes back into the kitchen.

While the waiter is away, Sid says, "I find it hard to believe that there are no Jews in Mexico. Our people are scattered everywhere!"

The waiter returns and says, "Señor, the head cook Manuel, he say there is no Mexican Jews."

"Are you certain?" Abe asks again. "I just can't believe there are no Mexican Jews!"

"Señor, I ask EVERYONE," replies the exasperated waiter. "All we have is Orange Jews, Grape Jews, Prune Jews, Tomato Jews and Apple Jews, but no Mexican Jews."

REHAB CONTINUES

This is one of many bridge that the "Old Guy" crossed today.

He is quite proud of his effort at rehabbing that shoulder. He believes by swinging the arms on top of the usual exercises will do the trick. After all the surgery was Jan 11. At any rat it is good to get out of the house.

BALTIMORE CITY JAIL

I was standing on the corner doing no harm
Along came a cop and grabbed me by the arm
He took me to a little box and rang a little bell
Along came the wagon and took me to my cell
I woke up Sunday morning and looked around the wall
The chinches and the bedbugs were having a game of ball
The score was 6 to 0, the chinches were ahead
A bed bug hit a homerun and knocked me out of bed
I woke up Monday morning, the waiter came around
With a piece of bread and butter that weighed a half a pound
The coffee tastes like chewing tobacco
The bread was hard and stale
And that's the way they treat you in the Baltimore City jail

CENTRAL PARK RALLY

(donated political satire)

This Guy stopped in the pet store the other day, and this dumb parrot was making noise. It seemed to be saying that there would soon be a big political rally in Central Park. The big red bird said, his Cousin, Prince Harry, from Queens Town was running for the Board of Royal Directors. Hard to believe, but the "King To Be" is quite a Hero in his own mind - just ask him. But when it comes to voting you may want to be Safe. Listen to The Wise Old Owl!

"hooo hoooo,  Vote for Harry, your Hard Headed Hero.  Hooo."

Not really, Folks. Just Remember those horrific emails this Little Napoleon sent out last year. They contained a variety of concocted garbage that still stinks. All that it did was reveal the evil side of this birds' personality.

Now HE wants to be your Mayor. No way!

Our Advice:  Don't get involved, and don't vote for this dumb bird. Put the Campaign Rhetoric aside, and tell the Corporal that You will make and your own choice as to who gets your vote..

BILL'S DOES A GREAT JOB FOR VALENTINES LUNCH

On Feb. 15th our number one lunch group journeyed from VeronaWalk to Bills Steak and Seafood on Tamiami Trail.

The group was promised a bargain price and fresh Swordfish. The Gentlemen's Group delivered on both promises. After the main meal everyone got a treat - Chocolate  Silk Cake.

We also had several items up for a drawing. One prize was a $50 gift certificate so one happy couple can make a return trip.

The way this gentlemen's group performs it is no wonder they are the number one luncheon group in our fine community.

SPACE TRIP

We almost went on a trip to outer space, but someone forgot the coupon.

At least Dennis remembered the tickets. We left early and spent the whole (cold) day at the National Space Center in Cape Canaveral.

This was a spot you could come back and make a few days visiting here. It was truly amazing to see rockets from yesterday and vehicles that once orbited the earth.

Some of the newer exhibits have vehicles that NASA would like to use on trips to places like Mars. Of course this is "Some Day."  I hope I am there to see the story when it comes out. Pending that take a look at a few of the pictures we  took when visiting the Space Museum.

SIGN UP FOR VALENTINES LUNCHEON

Gentlemen this year the VeronaWalk Gentlemen's Lunch Group will host again luncheon for the ladies. This time the event will be for Valentines Day.

The Gentlemen's Group will hold the event at Bills Steak and Seafood over on Tamiami Trail. The date is Feb. 15. The guys went fishing , and got a huge swordfish that was flown fresh  for us to devour with our Queens from Boston..

Our leader, Dennis, has promised that he not only has held the price down down, down, but has the quality up, up, up. With that mixture it is no wonder that the Gentlemen' Group continues to be recognized in VeronaWalk as the number one Gentlemen's Group with the premiere lunch activities shared by the masses. And you know what? Simple, you are welcome to join in for food and fun.

The official report is in, and it says, Dennis waited up high, until he could spot the right fish to give everyone a whale of a deal.

Don't forget to sign up for your spot at valentines.

BOSS BACK FROM TITUSVILLE

Oh we had a good time in Titusville!. Or should I say, I had a good time.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn. From there it was just a short ride to where all the Cops were setting up their displays for this big show. I thought I heard the wife mumble something that there can't be any Cops on patrol in view of the numbers here in Titusville,  That's OK. The criminals can wait to do their nonsense when everyone gets home.

There were a couple hundred members here and they all brought great displays. Take a look at some of the pictues and you will agree too. If you want to display anything just give me a call so I can purchase, at a bargain price, whatever it is you have in that back drawer.

Enjoy the pics.

Everybody felt safe at the show mostly because of their Glock Insurance Policies usually kept tucked neatly in the belt or in an ankle type briefcase.

Some of the old guys have some real old badges that they love to show. That's me with some of my antiquities. I collect from the NPD and have been at it fifty years. It still makes me smile, and I love to do that at these old shows.

Here are a couple more pictures. Just think after the show all this display "Stuff" has to go back to someone's house to be stored for another year.
