PULTE STOCK

Well another month in the books, and the "Old Guy" is still watching Stock. He thinks its' cool to yell to me to, "Make sure you show the Pulte month End Value.

Here it is:  $19.09

His initial purchase price was $6.42.  He is so proud how he made money with his pretend money. I hate to tell him that he can't spend a dime of it .

HAVE A LAUGH

One of our neighbors sent this one over. If you don't like  remember  it was sent around four years ago with another candidates name in use.

"An elderly lady was walking on the golf course on the island of Martha's
Vineyard. She slipped and fell.

Obama who was behind her by chance, helped her to get up promptly. She
thanked him and he answered: "It was a pleasure to help you. Don't you
recognize me? I am your president. Are you going to vote for me in the next
election?"

The elderly woman laughed and replied: 'I fell on my
butt.... not my head!"

ETHICS PROFESSOR JOINS OUR STAFF

It doesn't happen all that much, but occasionally we do "take off" to spend a few days  getting some "R and R." It is a job, working to check our posts/pictures to make sure we truthfully keep our readers well informed.

Our trip will be to Disney. Where else do we go?  Obviously we enjoy it. And we have another trip later in the month.

The Photographer has a new camera, and he can't wait to get some shots of his magical friends especially Goofy

We usually have our "trusty neighbor" watch the keyboard when we are away, however we have been blessed to have a retired Professor of Ethics volunteer to also help manage this blog. She is experienced in ethics, and will keep us out of trouble. After all we don't want Goofy snipping at Mickey's tail again.

While we are away look for some news from  guest journalists. We will be at the pier  checking on our dinner reservation.

CROCODILE ATTACKS IN GOLDEN GATE

Don't swim in the canals !

According to news outlets a Crocodile attacked a swimmer in a canal during the early morning hours. Again this was a "Crocodile", not the Alligator that we know so  well.

The victim was able to get away from the eight foot animal, but sustained shoulder injuries.

Below is a Gator. Let him remind you to be careful.

GUESS WHO TUTORED THE MOUSE IN JOURNALISM

Everybody loves Mickey, right?

Well yeah, except every now and then Mickey gets his tail snipped by someone.

It seems a reader took issue with a post that was done several days ago, and chastised Mickey for an inaccurate report. Our Mouse said, "He used the available facts for the article," but accepts twenty easy lashes from ?

FISHING CLUB

WE just saw on our Community TV Channel (195) that a Fishing Club has been established here in "The Walk."

They have had an initial meeting and the second meeting has been scheduled.

If you fish, check Viva or Ch. 195 for full details.

Do they have a boat?  Maybe our staff can get a ride in it? That would be fun !

A "LEFT OVER" FROM LAST BOARD MEETING

At the last Board meeting the subject came up regarding a request from our local Cafe that the HOA buy "business equipment" for them.

The equipment appears to be in the computer area and was damaged by a lightening strike.

Details regarding HOA responsibility in current lease is being researched, and this matter will be on the docket again. A representative from the restaurant has been invited to explain the Cafe's position on their request.

If you have an interest in this topic you may want to attend the September meeting.   Financial Support for the Cafe could be a lively topic, and a tough bridge to sell to the Community.

VALENTINA LADIES STEP OUT

Our roving reporter, and hungry wife, attended a Ladies Night Out on Tuesday Aug.12th.

The woman from Valentina Ct do a periodic get together, and visit different local restaurants for an evening of fun. Their last visit was to Mangrove Restaurant.

We are glad the ladies had a good time.

JERSEY GIRL HAS ANNIVERSARY

Our daughter in New Jersey is celebrating today, and we are making an "official" report of this event. That's us pictured with each of them.

It is now 21 years that She and her husband have been married.

We wish them well

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY

ASIAN INVASION IN OUR LAKE

We were out the other day enjoying our lakes and canals. Above is the front lake when looking pristine.

Today one will see a mess floating on the top of one of our canals. It does not look very good.

Today we received an explanation. The good news is the CDD Committee appears to be on top of the situation.

Please review the letter below:

"We are now facing an invasive plant growth in our lakes and canals that is difficult to eradicate. Lynn Ross has met with our environmental consultant to work on the process of eliminating this plant . The plant growth originated in Asia and we are working to have it removed; we ask for your patience."

Signed CDD Chairman

CAPT BRIEN'S

This past Wednesday (8-6-14) was the Gentlemen's monthly lunch on "The First Wednesday of the Month"

The men traveled over to Marco Island for a summer treat a Captain Brien's.

Our reporter said there was a nice turnout for a summer group, and the item that had the guys smiling was the Mahi Mahi Sandwich. The Roast Beef Sandwich looked pretty good too. On top of that they got dessert too.

ONE WAY TO STAY

At the last meeting The Board of Directors listed the subject of the flow of traffic around our gas station. The subject was previously voted on a couple of months ago.

The Safety Committee through its' chairman expressed concern for the Boards' decision, and apparently prevailed in the argument for another discussion.

There was talk that the Sheriff threatened to leave the community if a change to two way traffic did not take place. The County Engineer's office is said to also want the change. Further it was floating around the community that the initial temporary change was not done correctly.

At the the meeting on Aug 6 there was no one present from the Sheriff's office (They already told us they had no interest in this matter).  There was no one present from the County Engineer either. The words of importance that our reporter heard was that the paperwork, filed several years ago, "was correctly filed" (making the traffic flow one way).

Based on that, the Board again voted to keep the traffic flow as a single lane. Twice in less then six months the same decision. Good job guys, even though Mickey Mouse is still a little confused. But he is a mouse, who will let it go, and be happy.

PUBLISHER FAILS IN ATTEMPT TO WIN BOARD SEAT

Our Publisher was in a field of five candidates for the Board of Directors, but he finished just a few votes short.

Now there were only four votes cast, so the   winner got them all. A unanimous decision at this time was warranted. At the same time the other Candidates should hold their heads high. The were capable of doing the job, and have earned the respect of the Community, and the Board for their effort.

The next time that there will be a vote is at the annual meting in March. At that time the entire community will vote.

BOARD MEETING TONIGHT

Our HOA Board will meet tonight.

The appointment of a fifth member to the Board is on the agenda.

Another item of interest is the traffic flow at the gas station. It looks like the Board is revisiting an issue the decided a couple of months ago. God leave it alone.

LOOK AT THE LAKES NOW

Only a few weeks back we showed pictures of our canals. At that time they almost looked like dried out river bottoms. We almost hired an Indian to come in and do some rain dances.

This is Florida, and we can always wait for typical July weather.

Not quite every day, but it seemed like at 4:00 PM the clouds opened and our grass got watered. The lakes slowly rose.

The pictures above show the canal on Aug 2nd. Not bad. Hope you enjoy the "Old Guy's" picture above.

BOOM !

This might sound like a War Zone, but it is only "Progress." Read the notice below for the full story.

"Florida Energy Services Inc. is the company that has been subcontracted to do the drilling and blasting for Winding Cypress.  They have submitted a permit and intend to start blasting by the end of this week on Thursday, August 7.  Timeframe for blasting will be between 2:30 pm and 3:00 pmevery day.  Setup will be with a county inspector, and altogether will last about 90 days.  However, scheduling time may be affected due to inclement weather or mechanical delay.
Per County Ordinance, they have hired a vibration specialist company to come in for inspecting homes on the last street that are within 1,050 ft. from blasting, for pre-blast surveys. They will set up a seismograph outside specific homes for measuring vibration caused by blasting over the next couple of months.  For anyone concerned about the appearance of a small grey suitcase with a blue band in various locations in various locations around the community, it is the seismograph."

VISIT WITH GRANDSON

"Holy Cow" as Phil Rizzuto used to say.

The picture above is our Grandson Zachary.  It wasn't to long ago that he was a baby driving to Florida in the last millennium. Now look at him.

He is now driving. Oh my God, be careful.

We had to get in the picture too. He is in the middle, and his girlfriend is in the picture too.

AUGUST DATES TO NOTE

I checked "my" date book and no major birthdays this month. I'll check further. Right now I don't dare disturb "his" nap to look it up. There is an anniversary in New Jersey for him to recall.

Keep an eye peeled to see if he remembers.
