PULTE STOCK

As long the dollars show green we won't get tired of telling you about how Pulte Stock is doing near the end of the month.

Remember our initial investment was $6.42.

Over time we have seen that number drop and turn red. Not nice.

Now the value is in the area of $19.24   Nice!

RETURN FROM DISNEY

We had a great time in Disney. It seems we ate the whole time we were there: Morning, Noon, and Night !

The stay was limited to four nights. This time the Resort of choice was Pop Century. Its very nice especially when trying to save a buck. We didn't know it but there was a "Star Wars" Reunion at Hollywood Studios.

The "Old Guy"  pitter pattered  (He doesn't walk anymore) through all four parks. Naturally he had his camera and clicked here and there every day. Certainly he brought some nice pics back to share with our friends, and neighbors.

Here they are:

HAVE A LAUGH

Blond is back. Our neighbor has been on a roll . He keeps sending blond jokes to share.

Hope you like the latest:

*****

A blonde suspects her boyfriend of cheating on her, so she goes out and
buys a gun.

She goes to his apartment unexpectedly and when she opens the
door she finds him in the arms of a redhead. Well, the blonde is really
angry.

She opens her purse and takes out the gun, and as she does so, she is
overcome with grief. She takes the gun and puts it to her head
.
The boyfriend looks over and yells, 'No, honey, don't do it!!!'

The blonde replies, 'Shut up, you're next!'

REMEMBER MEMORIAL DAY

My Queen provided this information a couple of years ago. We then posted it on this blog in recognition of MEMORIAL DAY. The holiday is celebrated today (May 26)

We quietly post the memory again. While we will enjoy seeing the kids laugh and eat burgers, We hope, some day, they too will understand what the Memorial Day Holiday is all about.

Below is a modified reprint of this memory
:

"The lady showed me this modest oak display case. It hangs a wall in her house here in the community. It is in the shape of a triangle, and has a glass front. Inside the case is a folded American Flag. There is also a picture laying on top of that flag of an old merchant ship - the
S.S. James W. Denver.

During WW II it was customary for merchant ships to have U.S. Navy Sailors on board to man the guns and generally protect the ship. The lady's Dad, who was 19 years old at the time, served on this ship. The "Denver" was the first to have members of the US Navy on board.

In 1943 The S.S. Denver became a little known causality of World War II. It was lost before
my lady was ever born. In fact it was only one of 731 merchant ships lost in the war. It is but a footnote to World War II history.Elmer "Gerry" Cornwell, originally from the Port Huron area in Michigan served on the "Denver" in 1943. He survived the attack on "his ship" and ultimately made it home. Like a million other guys, who returned from the war, he got married, and had a family. He and his wife, Lois, had four "kids." They were Gerald, Lois, Dennis, and Mark.

The aforementioned Lois was born on July 11. She will probably use a broomstick, in a manner for which it was not intended, if I fill in the year of her birth. Today she is content to be a good neighbor here in Verona Walk. Her days are filled with many fine memories including those of her Dad.

The lady's' father, Gerry, died at the age of 48. He saw his oldest son and daughter get married; and he saw three grandchildren come into this world. He missed out on the births' of another six grandchildren.

During his life he never said one word about his experience as Sailor in the Navy - not a word! Sixty some years later research shows that the S.S. James W. Denver was torpedoed on
April 11, 1943 by the German "Underseeboot 195" in the North Atlantic.

Fifteen (15) men survived. They clung to a raft as their ship sunk deep into the Atlantic Ocean. On
April 24, 1943 the British Ship "H.M.S. Campana" found the survivors. They had been adrift for nearly two weeks.

After years of "never knowing" her fathers' war experience, my lady now has a fitting memorial to remind her of this story. She just has to take a daily glance at a simple display case on her wall. It tells the story every day."

I think she, and our her five children, will always have a good reason to hold our heads high on   Memorial Day. The picture below is the S S Denver

VW CRIME WATCH

Well it has been quiet for the most part here in VW. A lot of people have headed back home to places up North.

Their homes are secure.

There has been no news regarding those bad guys that have broken into some homes by force outside our walls. Apparently they (3 Males) have been caught in the Orlando area. That's good, but everyone should  stay alert and be safe.

If you see something unusual do as Mickey says -  call 911. There is no joking around when it comes to your safety.

LOOK OUT AT GAS STATION

While "they" are riding the train at Disney, I'll be taking my responsibility here (Blog HQ) seriously.

It seems our Board of Directors is going to revisit the proposal to change the traffic flow to "Two-Way" around our gas station.  Well they make the rules, but they already decided the issue.

The First time a decision was rendered was when Town Center opened. That was a few years ago.

The Board "re-decided" this issue just a couple of weeks ago. In a unanimous vote they said in effect "One-Way".

Now the matter is going to be re-visited, and  some our saying nasty letters are being sent pressuring the Board to reconsider. It's tough enough meandering around the fuel pumps to double park for just a minute to get the mail. Who wants this change, and why haven't correspondence, reports and recommendations not been shared with the community. We do have an interest I think.

A change to "Two-Way" traffic would make a poor situation Worse!

I'll probably get fired for stating my viewpoint here, but I just don't think it makes sense to change the traffic flow after all these "YEARS."  Stick to the existing plan. Move on, and don't get hit by the gas truck on the way out.

DISNEY AGAIN

The neighbor will be here watching the "keyboard" and placing a couple of articles. We know she will be good like always.'' The "Old Guy" will have his focus elsewhere !

While she has the blog controls we will be taking our time doing Disney again. Can't help it, but we like the place and it is flower festival time.

"SEE YOU IN SEPTEMBER" A HIT AT GORDON'S

It was thought that many of our Gentlemen's Lunch Group members would have headed north for the summer. At out Wednesday Lunch to let the guys know we miss them, the VeronaWalk singers, led by Jersey Joe Fusco, reached back to the late 50's for this classic song:  "See You In September."

Try the link below to see Jersey Joe and his VW partners sing this great song.

http://youtu.be/jEemEF1myjI

There was a large group of men present at Gordon's On The River and every single person had a tear in their eye remembering their summers of long long ago. We think the large number was due to the men wanting to just hear the guys sing.

Great job Gentlemen. Enjoy the pictures below of this performance.

P.A.C. TAKES THE BUS TO PERFORM THEIR SHOW AT ORLANDO EVENT

On Friday May 2, we all jumped on the bus to go to Orlando for the awards show sponsored by the "Florida Communities of Excellence" group.

Our new Bus Driver - Arnold - took us through torrential rain, horrible traffic, and necessary potty stops but got everyone there bright eyed and bushy tailed.

Below is part of the gang of forty-five on the bus. Look at those smiling faces, and energy. Sorry, but it was not there when we got home. We were burned out, and there was good reason for it.

Our P.A.C. performers opened the conference dinner with "Another Show." They were pumped !  And this time there were 500 people at the dinner ceremony.

Our efforts to have a  "Safe Community" was recognized by the organization. We received a very nice "Star" trophy made of glass. It  was accepted by our Safety Committee Chairman. We also received a "Star" for our efforts in "Energy Conservation."

There was added energy expelled by our entire group when were made aware that VeronaWalk was named  "Community of the Year."  Our Town Manager accepted the award for us. No wonder she has a huge smile on her face. Earlier in the evening she won a coveted award - "Manager of the Year."  She holds the award for "Community of the Year"  that she shares with the VeronaWalk Residents.

Enjoy the pictures below which are now memories of a great day for VeronaWalk - May 2nd  2014.

Getting ready to board the bus.

Now we are getting ready to practice for the "Really Big Show Tonight"

And to take some pictures too.

Our Producers, and owner of that mighty fine 57 Chevy that drove P.A.C all year to raise $25,000 for Children's Charities. These efforts also helped our community win the fabulous Community of the Year Award

And when we arrived home it didn't take long for this poster to be created and placed in our Town Center. It says it all.

BOARD NOW WILL PLACE THEIR MINUTES ON LINE

An announcement was sent throughout our community that "minutes" from all the Board of Director meetings will be available on line.

You should try this address in order to read the minutes.

http://www.veronawalknaples.com/BoardMeetingMinutes.htm

DATES FOR THE BOSS TO NOTE

The "Old Guy" doesn't even remember his own birthday, so I generally put it here, and let him take credit. It should be easy to note this month's unforgettable dates as there are none.

Good job "Old Guy."
