HAVE A LAUGH

Thank you friends and neighbors for sending us a joke to share. Here is some humor from a reliable old friend.

Headstone of Russell J. Larsen in the Logan City Cemetery, Logan, Utah !
I wonder if he died knowing he won the 'Coolest Headstone' contest?
His five rules for a happy life are below.

FIVE RULES FOR MEN TO FOLLOW FOR A HAPPY LIFE:

1. It's important to have a woman who helps at home,
cooks from time to time, cleans up, and has a job.

2. It's important to have a woman who can make you
laugh.

3. It's important to have a woman who you can trust,
and doesn't lie to you.

4. It's important to have a woman who is good in bed,
and likes to be with you.

5. It's very, very important that these four women
do not know each other or you could end up dead like me.

ACTIVITIES OFFICE EXTENDS "THANKS"

The Activities Office sent an email to residents regarding Halloween and the help given by residents. See it below.

"I wish to extend my sincere appreciation to all the residents of VeronaWalk who helped me in so many ways with our Halloween events for both the adults and children! Thank you to all who…decorated the ballroom, wash and ironed linens, helped with gift baskets, goodie bags and table décor, worked our trunk or treat event…crafts, check in, tattoos, food, crafts, cupcake decorating, baked delicious cupcakes, cookies and goodies for the kids, came out to Trunk or Treat, clean up, parking lot coordination and everything in between! You are the best and are so appreciated! Thank you for your generosity and especially for making our kids Trunk or Treat Halloween event and our Adult Dinner Dance a huge success."

LOOKING BACK ON STORM

Sandy hit New Jersey and New York like a heavyweight's right hand - HARD. The picture of the  Tanker is from Staten Island. The Beach shot comes from Bay Head, NJ.

We have several reporters (My Queen and our daughters) on the scene telling us about this disaster. Electric is out for most areas, and will be out for days. Flooding is the rule near the rivers and Atlantic Coast. Inland trees and wires are down, and some roads are blocked.

Public Transportation is also down. Buses can't move, trains are not getting around in NYC, and the airports are experiencing  problems that they have not seen before. One reporter advises water on airport runways, from flooding, has caused flights to be cancelled.

Our Chief Reporter advises She will not be able to get out until Saturday.  This is due to difficulties in Newark, at the airport. She said a generator is helping them at the moment at the house in New Providence, NJ. We will See Her soon. As pictures are received  they will be added on this post, so check back for changes.

HALLOWEEN - FIN ?

He is "Fin."  Maybe that is "Finn."  I really don't know who or what this character is all about. I probably have to be sixty years younger. Oh well that is life.

The kid likes this character and this is what the Halloween costume looks like this year. I wouldn't wear it, but I guess he can. My job is to take the picture, pretend I like it,  and let you guys see it.

Don't tell him I ate half of his candy.

PINK POST OFFICE

The Post Office here has been observed many times, but it was always "White."  We past it recently and just had to pull in and take a picture.

As you can see they changed the color as a tribute to "Breast Cancer Month."  Good job guys. There is a lot of heart in Ocopee.

On the way out a UPS Truck pulled in with a package for the Post Office. The driver just  couldn't resist saying: "When they want it On Time, They Call Us."

SANDY IS A TROPICAL STORM

(MIAMI (AP) The Weather People  say:

"Tropical Storm Sandy has formed in the Caribbean south of Jamaica."

"The National Hurricane Center in Miami said Monday afternoon that Sandy was about 395 miles south southwest of Kingston, Jamaica, and had winds of 40 mph. It is forecast to hit Jamaica on Tuesday night or early Wednesday."

We do not appear to be in Sandy's path, but it might be wise to check it out every now and then to be on top of this storm. Our Safety Guy gave us this link to follow this storm.

TURNER RIVER BOARDWALK

We have lived here close to fifteen years, and although we have passed the Turner River Boardwalk we never stopped. A few days ago we made up for all that lost time by planning a picnic lunch, and watching nature.

It didn't take too long to get there. We cruised almost alone on US 41 past Everglades City. A short distance after the Sheriff's Station we pulled into the parking lot of this great nature area.

As the pictures show we had good luck and managed to see friends in the trees as well as under water.

SWAT -NEW TACTICS FOR LATE FEES

The "Old Guy" came in a few minutes ago with our neighbor. He had a picture!  Mr. Neighbor had a story !

God knows I have resisted that bridge the  "Old Guy" keeps trying to sell me.  Now, supported by his "friend,"  they think they can sell me this bit of fiction.

Their line is something like this: "If  HOA Fees are not paid, Management will have Navy Seals come onto the property to enforce "collections.

Now, I didn't buy that, but I wanted a peek at this picture. After all that could be proof of a new collection policy.  It did look out of the ordinary. I thought I saw a Sheriff's Car behind someones outdoor chairs. The "SWAT TEAM" truck was also there. It was on the right side of the the parking lot.

I decided to check it out with my glasses. I also remembered the notice I read at Town Center about the SWAT Team using our Model Homes as an area for a Training Exercise. I  quickly learned from the guy's that our Collier Sheriff's Swat Team looked good. They were extremely professional, and clearly knew exactly what they were doing. They even let the "Old Guy" drive their compact vehicle - just kidding.

I think the "boys" had fun securing this picture and thinking of something to spoof me. I usually don't listen. I wish I got off that easy this time since I  have to nurse the "Old Guy's" splinters. They are in his hand. He got them climbing a tree to sneak the pictures above.

DRIVEWAY TERROR

This guy was at the front door a couple of days ago. He was a big rabbit and did not run when approached.

The Lady of the house had enough time to get "my camera" and take a shot at him. Nice job. Now see if you can train him to bring the paper to the door.

TWIN BIRTHDAY'S

Well they are not exactly "twins" but they do share the same month for their birthdays.

I am never sure of the correct dates so let me just put the good wishes in the middle of the month. At this point I don't think Connor and Haakon can read so,  I'll get away with the date thing. But the good wishes are there and said loudly to the little guys

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BOYS'

POOCH OF THE MONTH

This is our tribute to the October "Pooch of the Month." A picture a month lets us enjoy seeing these fine animals one more time. All of the animals were participants in our Community's "Smooch A Pooch" event several months ago.

This guy was a winner for sure. At least I liked him. Hope you do too.

CAPTAIN BRIEN'S

Your VW lunch group took a trip back to Marco Island for the "First Wednesday of the Month"  Luncheon. The sponsor of this long standing monthly event is our Community's  VeronaWalk Gentlemen's Group.

The Gentlemen used Captain Brien's as their host restaurant for the October 3rd event. There was a very reasonable cost of $16.00 to attend. That included Cheesecake for dessert too.

Members of the Group were advised that their "Helping Hand Project is functioning." Several volunteers are available to help when someone has a short term need. The group was also advised of the "Performing Arts Committee" in their community, and asked to become part of it.

Our reporter attended. He said, he found that the VW Gentlemen's Group have an organized event, and certainly focus on an Agenda that delivered: "Food, Fun and Friendship."

CAR ACCIDENT AT TOWN CENTER GAS STATION

On October 6, 2012 (Saturday) there was a single car accident at Town Center. There were two injuries.

The incident occurred late afternoon. The car pictured above jumped the curb and damage the concrete column. This damage can be seen in the picture.

Collier Sheriff and EMS responded and took one individual to hospital. They were treated and released. For more information see:  http://veronawalkcertteam.blogspot.com/

This blog extends its' wishes for a quick recovery to our fellow residents. Numerous residents came to the scene and helped out. The area was totally cleaned up in just one hour. Great job.

Our local race fans should know that the activities office has just 10 tickets left for the up coming NASCAR Ford 400.

Trip is Nov 18. Bus leaves at 7:00 AM

If interested call the HOA office

KIDS TRY ON COP HATS

We got  back on "duty" the other day with the little one. She is a devil. When the "Old Guy" took his eye off her she saw the opportunity to try on some of his collectible police hats.

Of course she got caught in the act with his camera. Somehow I don't think He is annoyed.

When she got picked up the other one had to have a turn too. Both of their "mug shots" have been put on file. Above is the evidence.

BIG NIGHT AT COSTCO

I am not an easy person to get to go to the store, especially at night. That is true even if there are freebies. I did roll over when my V.W. neighbor put the pressure on.

When we arrived I noticed the parking lot was empty so I figured there would not be a lot of people clogging up the aisle. Well it took just a few steps and I saw the line at Costco's front door waiting to enter at 7:00 PM  while I was looking at the line I nearly got hit by this old fire engine pictured below.

I now understood that this was an exhibit by the local Sheriff and Fire Dept. They brought out everyone including SWAT. There was a robot employed by the Bomb Squad. It was neat but prevented Costco from having a . The robot is pictured below with the nice D.A.R.E.  Police Car.

Above is a picture of the "Old Guy" and the young Lady who supervised the CSI exhibit. This was very informative. I was happy that the bones on the table were not mine. Mine are still as pictured with the representative from the Sheriff's Office.

An exhibit that caught my eye was the "9-11 Memorial." Apparently the County is building Freedom Memorial, and had a Naples man design it. As I looked at it I observed a couple of picture displays of those who lost their lives that day. I never thought I would be going through something like them to see someone I knew. I don't need the brick to remember, but the one below will be part of the permanent Memorial that I want to see.

Time eventually got to me so I drove on out there with some nice memories and pictures. Check them out below, and note that is not my little car.

OCTOBER 6, SAFETY EVENT ON SATURDAY BY COMMUNITY POOL

This Saturday (Oct. 6) the community CERT Team will be at Town Center to meet residents, and talk about what they do to help in an emergency.

This is an event that is deserving of a visit. Residents can learn some things and maybe even become motivated to join the Team.

Check it out. The Time is 1:00 to 4:00 PM. Look for them at our beautiful pool.

This lady is planning on sending the "Old Guy" just to give him something to do.

BURGLARY

Just after midnight, on Saturday morning, a man tried to force his way into a residents home. He is charged with burglary and resisting (without violence) an officer.

He has been released on $12,500 bond. The man is also a resident of our community.

The owners of the home apparently were home and called the Sheriff. They responded to Portofino Ct. There they observed that the "perp" entered the lanai by cutting the locked screen door. From the lanai he tried to get access to the home through slider doors.

The "bad guy" left the scene on a bike. Officers had a chase on their hands before finally apprehending him by blocking his path with their vehicle.

Once in custody it was determined that the offender lived on Valentina Ct.  That address is also in the community. For legal reasons we elect not to identify the offender or the addresses involved.

This Blogs' Safety Guy reminds you again: Make sure you use your alarm and get good locks for your sliders.

OCTOBER - DATES TO REMEMBER

The Lady gave me a clue for those important dates to remember during the month. She said: "Cousins."

Well with the reminder I figured it out and will note that Connor, and Haakon celebrate birthdays this month. We send our best wishes now to make sure they know how proud we are of them.

Happy Birthday Boys !!!
