HAVE A LAUGH

Another joke from a V.W. Neighbor

The Traffic Camera

A man was driving through town, when he saw the flash of a traffic camera.

He figured that his picture had been taken for exceeding the limit, even though he knew that he was not speeding.

Just to be sure, he went around the block and passed the same spot, driving even more slowly, but again the camera flashed.

Now he began to think that this was quite funny, so he drove even slower as he passed the area again, but the traffic camera again flashed.

He tried a fourth time with the same result..

He did this a fifth time and was now laughing when the camera flashed as he rolled past, this time at a snail's pace.

Two weeks later, he got five tickets in the mail for driving without a seat belt.

You just can't fix stupid.

NEW BUDGET TO KICK IN JAN 1

Another year and a new budget to kick in starting Jan.1, 2010. This one shows a small increase over last year.

Zero increase would have been better. One could analyze and look for compromise here and there. In the end that which has been cast is that which rules.

Ten bucks a month is manageable.

CHRISTMAS LIGHTS

MERRY CHRISTMAS to Family, Friends, and Neighbors.

The Naples community, as well as ours, is nicely decorated for the holidays. We don't have any lighting on our house, but did manage to get some other displays on the ground in the landscape area.

I like the white lights on the trees. I remember lights all over in NJ. If you like lights use the link below and enjoy some nice Christmas lighting and music. Oh Yes, MERRY CHRISTMAS !

VALENTINA CT. STREET PARTY

Saturday, Dec. 19th was the Valentina Ct Street Party. This event was at "Rick's Place" in Town Center.

There was a great turn out, and a nice blend of "full timers" as well as "snow birds." There no hesitation in getting the conversations rolling. IT was "just like old times."

There was discussion regarding our activities. For the most part people are very pleased that Valentina Ct is a very active street. It was agreed that neighbors would contact their Representatives with suggestions for future activities.

The gang also had an opportunity to check out the new management. Everyone had something off the menu, and seemed generally very pleased.

A BIG EIGHT

Eight Years old today. This little guy is aging fast. Me and my Lady can remember when he was born. I remember teaching (with help) him to swim. He is still like a fish in the Town Center pool. From one side to the other - underwater. Well Happy Birthday Cam. Have a great day.

We all are proud of you, and hope you enjoy your special day.

FULL SPEED AHEAD

All Ahead, slow. Make that very, very slow. That was the order for the evening and the boat parade at Tin City.

Dragging that guy out of the house was not only slow, but a forecast of how the evening would go. We joined a gang of V.W. Neighbors for a night out.

After getting him seated the "Double Sunshine" blew its horn and off we went. At slow speed we looked at all the fine boats, and homes. Then the boat went out into the gulf. We let dolphin chase our wake for a while, and then enjoyed a really beautiful sunset.

When we returned the gang went to the River Walk Restaurant for a slow meal, and watched as the Boat Parade cruised by for our review.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL

NO GAMES TODAY !

My experts are out on some big ship doing a cruise. That means no word from them as to tey best game to watch this week.

The Lady of the house picked the Gators last week, and did such a wonderful job there that I have to agree with her that there is: NO GAME TODAY.

PIZZA

Up North in New Jersey I once went to a fire site. My Son in Law is a Volunteer Fire Man. He takes his job very seriously.

When the alarm comes don't get in his way or the guy will run you over to get to his Truck.

Once I went to a local fire, and what did I find. The fire was out and all the volunteers were sitting on the lawn. The fans were blowing a nice breeze to cool them down. They also had plenty of cold water, and someone donated Pizza's to the men.

That is a nice way for the volunteers to feel the appreciation of their community and to increase the camaraderie among the ranks. Its' a good thing.

Last night the local pizza oven was turned on and the V.W. CERT Team got together in a similar meeting. This too was good. The team purchased their pizza's from RICK'S PLACE the new restaurant in our community. The pies were excellent.

This Lady appreciates efforts of all those volunteers that make up the CERT team. Good Holidays Guys !!!

SLIDING DOORS ARE THE WEAKEST LINK IN PROTECTING OUR HOMES

Today V.W. Resident has some time on his hands and has peaked at several reports regarding protecting our valuables.

We all know that our home is solid, but our sliding doors are almost an invitation to a burglar. It seems a pry bar and some evil determination and a "perp" is in and out with your cash and jewelry in less than two minutes. This is not new information, yet every now and then someone needs a reminder to go the extra step and secure those doors.

A couple of well versed neighbors (Our Safety Team) have told us that they will give us periodically some safety tips to share with friends and residents.

MORE BABY SITTING DUTY

I got hood winkled (I think that is the correct expression). It's like this. My old legs weren't working well, and I decided to give them a rest. Then My Lady took a call from the daughter. It seems her little ape is not feeling well, and could she watch him?

My Lady, of course, said YES. I don't think she knows how to say No.

It wasn't even 8:00 AM when the car (Not an ambulance) pulled in the driveway to drop the poor patient off for some TLC. I guess that's OK, but I shouldn't have said so. In the next minute or two My Lady tells me she is going out for lunch. That means: It's me and him. Well I believe in tough love, not TLC. He doesn't look sick anyway.

My first thought was to take him for a walk around the lake, and over the Verona Mountains. That thought told me my medicine was working.

In the end I decided to just make him lay down and rest, and I would just play with my camera. Of course my pal and I had a great day.

AUTISM BENEFIT

How much would you pay to see some high quality men parade across the floor looking to become Miss VeronWalk.

The answer is twenty dollars. Thatis what a ticket will cost to attend the Charity Show benefiting local Austism Societies.

The show is on March 27, 2010.

Tickets are being sold throughout the community by volunteers, and at Town Center.

YOUR FIRED !!!

Now my nice Lady is in trouble.

Again she volunteered to be a baby sitter for the wild child. I didn't want to get involved, but did issue the warning: "Don't let her in the Den. That made me feel safe. But that feeling did not last long. The kid did her magic act: Now you see me, now you don't. I like the "now you don't part," buy then again I am only kidding, and my Lady has not been fired.

Hope you Guys(especially up in NJ-NY) appreciate these.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL

The game today that the experts told me to watch is Florida vs Alabama. They won't say who is going to win, but they say this is the best game of the year so watch it!

A Lady friend told me that since the Gators are well versed in swimming: "They will turn the water into a Crimson Tide." She said you can bet on that ! So why won't she let me watch all the games today.

DECEMBER: BIRTHDAYS AND ANNIVERSARIES

Time is going way too fast. Another month has gone by quickly, and within days the year will have flown by too.

That nice Lady I hang out with has the job of telling me the guy's that need to be remembered here. She does a pretty good job, even though she forgot my birthday last month. I didn't want to remember either.

This month there are two. One is my Lady's 'little girl'. The other is "My" buddy.

HAVE A LAUGH

No ill feelings intended for those with blond hair, but a neighbor sent this to us to share with everyone. Enjoy it!!!

A police officer stops a blond for speeding and asks her very nicely if he could see her drivers license.

She replied in a huff, "I wish you guys would get your act together. Just yesterday you take away my license and then today you expect me to show it to you!"

COLLEGE FOOTBALL

One more Saturday. The guys are stuffed from Thanksgiving, but they are ready for some activity involving the old pigskin this weekend. They say to "The Big Game" on Saturday is Florida v Florida. That is Gators v Seminoles.

My experts are "leaning" towards that Gators. They have a lot to motivate them. On the other hand the Bowden Coached Seminoles have a lot to motivate them too.

The consensus is this will be a close, low scoring game with Gators on top after overtime. You can bet your ranch on this pick.

JERSEY GIRL CALLS ON AVON

News from the Jersey Clan. One of the girls is going to join the Avon Team. At least that is what my Lady told me. Well being a natural beauty I don't need any of that stuff. But when my little girl called and asked if her website could be included in this blog I couldn't refuse.

Every now and then we'll post a note on "Avon" for her. It's either posted here, or the NY Times will do it.

Here is her website: www.youravon.com/ckillian and the email address:

HAPPY THANKSGIVING

Another year has gone by, and Thanksgiving is upon us again. This V.W.Resident is still thinking about last year and all that turkey. Well guess it's time to do it over again. This time the "daughter" gets to be host. She cooks well enough, and i am sure she will do a great job with "all the fixins." My only worry is she doesn't like football. That could be a problem. Nonetheless Happy Thanksgiving to all our friends, neighbors and kids.

WELCOME NEW RESTAURANT

The Bistro has changed ownership and its name. It is now: RICK'S PLACE.

Residents have an important interest in this establishment, so lets hope it is successful.

A Grand Opening special is being offered which sounds quite nice: Bottle of wine, salad, and an entree for $30 (plus tax/tip).

Best of Luck !!!

COLLEGE FOOTBALL

Is the interest in College football falling off. Last week the "experts" failed to send in the best pick for Saturday. Today they are saying there will be a lot of close games, but one that could be a huge blow out is Oklahoma. This team might be trying to get back into the top ten so motivated they just may be. That's the pick: The Sooners of Oklahoma in a rout.

THE JERSEY BIRTHDAYS

This is a tough month to get all the birthdays down. The Lady trys to help me in the beginning of the month, but it is just hard to hang on to who and when. Thanks to a gentle nudge I can enter here Happy Birthday Wishes for three of my favorite Jersey Guys: Jason, Gunnar, and Hayley.

DOLPHIN GAME

This was a miracle game on more than one front.

V.W.Resident took his grandson to this game for the second year in a row. Initially he was a little bored going to the game, but was one happy guy coming home.

The kid boasted that he made friends with everyone on the bus. While I watched him from a distance he threw a football with "the guy's," and talked his head off with everyone in the parking lot. After this "play time" it became "tailgate time."

For sure his Mom better not say I didn't feed him. We all ate pretty good, especially Mr. Zachary. He did say he wanted cheese fries, but settled on two boxes in the football pool. He's got to learn about gambling sometime, so I figured this was a good time to teach him. Well after the game the winner was announced. Don't you know it - He actually won.

All the way home he told me how he wanted to spend this money on some electronic game. He was afraid his cash would evaporate. Kids!

On the field I was impressed with the huge flag that was rolled out for our National Anthem. This certainly was impressive, and one of the things I really enjoyed. I also liked the fireworks that they did during the team introductions. Some of the flames went a good 50 feet in the air. It made me feel like a kid.

Near the end of the game someone asked my Grandson who he was rooting for. He explained how he was a Patriot fan, and was anti Dolphins; but he was really focused on points scored and those possible winnings. The man told him: "Go for the money." The kid's smile was "priceless."

We started to leave at the 2:00 minute warning. The Dolphins were ahead, and I certainly thought "Game Over." We were joined by thousands who missed two score changes. In the end the Dolphin's scored last to win the game. The clock ran out and the game was over. What a game and, as noted "my boy" also won the football pool.

I hope the kid remembers the day. I don't think I'll ever forget it. Truly a Great Day in paradise.

CASINO RUN

Saturday was a good day. V.W.Resident was taken to the east Coast for a day at the casino. It was a full bus load, and ended with a huge win of $38. That's better then a loss.

DINNER AND DANCE

Friday night was date night. There was a Community Dance at the Town Center. My Lady got all worked up about music, dancing and wine. I set my thoughts on food.

Once there I did find my toes tapping. Eventually my feet hit the floor and did there thing. Many of our friends were caught smiling and having a fun too.

There were lots of old tunes. A lot of people managed to wiggle a little on the dance floor. The party ended at Florida Midnight - 10:00 PM. It was a great evening.

Entertainment was provided by "Cahlua & Cream". These guys have been here before. They do a good job, and they have their own website to checkout - www.cahluaandcream.com

IT'S OFFICIAL: WE "GOT" LOTTO

We just saw an email from the activities office advising the residents that the LOTTO has arrived in our community. Some people will be real happy with the opportunity to play, and we wish them the best of luck. V.W Resident can't wait for a party when we have our first million dollar winner.

Wednesday, November 11, 2009

LOTTO SCHOOL

We just learned that the owners of Mattie's place have attended a class relating to managing the Florida Lottery.

This is good news. If things go right the chance of Lotto machines being introduced to our community is only a few days away. This V.W Resident is already checking out his nickle jar and dreaming of becoming a winner.

STAGE COACH RIDE TO CASINO

On Monday a small group of pioneers from the community got on the little bus from Dolphin Tours and headed way out into the woods to the Seminole Casino in Immokolee. It was a nice day, and twenty good souls were home by 3:00 PM.

V.W. Resident and his Lady took the ride and enjoyed the day. We did our part to stimulate the economy. At the end of the day one of us got a $40. cash bail out in exchange for those machine tickets. That is a definite plus. We plan to stockpile the money and buy lottery tickets at Mattie's Place.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL

Another saturday, but the "Experts" failed to send their pick in for the Best Game. One told me long ago: "When in doubt pick the Gators." So here it si Florida Gators chew up the opposition with no problems.

GREASE AT BARBARA MANN

V.W.RESIDENT may be getting old, but Wednesday was a nice trip back to yesterday. A short ride took us with good friends to Barbara B Mann theater on Edison College Campus.Just like teenagers we sat in the balcony and had a center aisle view of a great show Grease. In January the theater will do a performance of Jersey Boy's and we are ready to do it again.

CERT MEETING

For all those neighbors on the CERT TEAM you have a meeting on SATURDAY !!! That is Nov. 7th.

Your day starts at 8:00 AM (Yes, that is in the morning - early morning). Meet in Town Center and be prepared to deal with an emergency.

If you do well you will be home in time for FOOTBALL. Have a good day.

THE GHOSTS DANCED LAST SATURDAY

Here I am living in a Florida community. No Job as this V.W. Resident is retired.

So what do I do. I let the Lady dress me up like a kid, and take me out to the Dance at our Town Center. There were ghosts all over the place. Crazy costumes too. One Lady looked like a tree. She should come to my home and stand in for some of my plants. Even the lady with the pie was dressed up as a cat.

This guy didn't see any Ghost Whisperer around, so he made himself content to just sit with the Lady and deal with some different kind of spirits. They worked fine, and nobody told me to "cross over." There was even a Nun and Priest chasing the ghosts, and forgiving some sins.

The music was good. You had to like it or be arrested. The one singer was NYPD. Lots of people were observed tapping their feet. Me too. On occassion I shook my feet a little on the dance floor. That made for some fun. The songs brought back memories, nice ones. A good night it was. Hope to do it next year.

CALI IS JUST "SNAKING" AROUND

What is the name of that snake that slithers across the terrain real fast? If it didn't have a name already, Little Miss Cali could be nominated for the title: Fastest Little Snake on Earth. The little critter is nice to hug and hold IF only one can catch her. Love that smile.

NOVEMBER: BIRTHDAYS AND ANNIVERSARIES

Good God, the first of the month is here again. The "Lady" handed me the calendar and showed me four dates to remember this month. One person is getting old for sure.

If I remember I'll address the appropriate events on their day. If not, accept the good wishes from this posting: Jason, Gunnar, Dennis, and Hayley. Enjoy your special days, and try to stay young.

SNAKE WARNING

One of our neighbors just told us that there "was" a snake in our community.

Their warning was to "Be On The Lookout" for a snake, with a rattle. It has a very nasty bite if it gets its' fangs into you. If you see one stay clear of it !

The particular species of this snake is Eastern Diamond Back Rattlesnake and this is the land area that they live in. This guy is quite poisonous. The one that was reported to us was said be four and a half feet long. The fangs were an inch and a half long.

The one our neighbor told us about is no longer a threat, however one should always exercise caution when outside. No need to panic, but be careful everyone. Thanks to the V.W. Neighbor who contributed this.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL

This week we got"a call" from the huddle regarding the best pick on Saturday. It was discussed by the experts here sunny Florida who have made their call, however they we restricted from picking any of our Florida teams. In addition they were required to pick a game that was going to have surprise ending potential. After all that they say watch Southern Cal and Oregon in a real close game. Winner: Southern Cal.

HAVE A LAUGH

Another contribution from a fellow resident trying to put a smile where it belongs. Enjoy it.

An Irishman who had a little too much to drink is driving
home from the city one night and,
of course, his car is weaving violently all over the road.

A cop pulls him over.
"
So," says the cop to the driver, where have ya been?"
"Why, I've been to the pub of course," slurs the drunk.
" Well," says the cop, "it looks like you've had quite
a few to drink this evening."
"
I did all right," the drunk says with a smile.
"
D id you know," says the cop, standing straight and
folding his arms across his chest,
that a few intersections back, your wife fell out of your car?"
"
Oh, thank heavens," sighs the drunk.
"
For a minute there, I thought I'd gone deaf."

HALOWEEN

It is that time of the year when all the ghosts and their friends come out to haunt the community again.

The gang worked hard to get the Town Center ready for the big event on Sat (Oct 31). There is still some time to get a costume for the dance.

Hope to see a large group at the dance.

AHEAD OF SCHEDULE

Our community was set to see its' first convenience store open Nov. 1st, but that has changed - for the better.

It seems the shelves are installed and filled, and the coffee is hot and ready to go. So why wait? The family team that will operate "Matties Place" decided to open the doors ahead of schedule. Initial reports have been most favorable.

Best wishes to the owners, and nice lady pictured, with this venture.

GARDEN STATE KIDS

On the trip to NJ My Lady insisted we get some pictures of the kids.

These two our My Lady's youngest grandchildren (in NJ). We hope our friends can appreciate them. The "princess" was just a little (and quiet) thing when she visited "The Walk" with her parents. Now she is another story.

The little guy is a new arrival on the scene. Already he is a candidate for Fireman duty, and owns his very own fire engine.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL

The regular season is more than half over, and our prognosticators have been pretty good. In addition they have not been accused of having "inside information" or promoting gambling. It's all about fun, and enjoying that Saturday afternoon game.

The call this week from the neighborhood genius is Oklahoma's Sooners, and the fall back pick, as usual, is Gators.

Friday, October 23, 2009

V. W. NAVY "BLASTS" SHORELINE

The headline is a little misleading. Our V.W. Navy isn't a "battle ship" for sure.

It is a 16 Ft. work boat. It has no guns. It is equiped with a mighty spraying apparatus that is used to chemically treat our shoreline. Good job mate.

CASINO BUS ROLLS

That Casino Bus rolled once again on Saturday the 17th.

It departed at a new time - 9:00am. This is to give some of us a chance to sleep a few minutes longer, and others a chance to see if they had the lucky tickets in the Casino raffle.

This is always a fun time. It would have been more fun if I drew a full house or two. Who cares. The food was good, and so was the company.

OCTOBERFEST

It's beer drinking time. The local "Bistro" ran a nice special for Octoberfest on Friday the 16th. There was a good turnout.

Our friend, and local resident, Mr. Joe provided entertainment as guest DJ. He sang some real old tunes and some songs from his recent CD. He provided an opportunity to sing along, and that put a lot of smiles on our faces.

This was a good event made better by sharing the time with good neighbors.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL

It's mid October, and the kids are all running well with their football games. My Lady told me that she has a pick - Wallkill Valley. That's a NJ kids team. The grandson played an exciting game. It was close right up to the coin flip. Number 58 played a real good game. Some day we might see him running on the TV screen. That's the future, today it is Oklahoma v Texas. This could be real close, but look for the "longhorns" to squeak by the Sooners.

NEW BUSINESS AT TOWN CENTER

It should be obvious that as the "replacement editor etc." I don't write very much. So this may be my big scoop for the gang here in Florida. It appears that there will be a small store moving into our Town Center. Reports from a couple of neighbors is that owners want to offer ice cream, coffee and convenience items. Hope this is true.

LIGHTHOUSE AHEAD

"HIS LADY" said if there is no news just throw out an old j0ke or something out of the file. This was in that file. I hope it is a joke. My bottom line: I still won't mess with US NAVY.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL

Who is the best team or game today? I don't have a clue.

I did get instruction as to who to call or visit for "The PICK," but I don't know where I put it. I like to watch, but I am not an authority. The last time I did this thing I picked some team out of the blue and got some Lady annoyed. S here is a random choice: Florida over whoever, with ir without Tebow.

I hope that lady who got mad doesn't get upset this time around. Go Gators.

PUBLISHER OFF AGAIN

The guy left town with his lady to visit family in NJ and NY. He said: "Some will be pleased."

You should know I don't write much as the replacement. I hope I don't get anybody angry. Enjoy the silence !

COSTCO BREAKFAST

The Food Giant came to the neighborhood on Saturday (Oct 3), and, with the help of free coffee, pastry, and fruits, made a presentation regarding membership in their store.

The presentation was at Town Center, and V.W.Resident was dragged into the show by his Lady. He was observed moving pretty good while heading for the free coffee. The room was filled to capacity by 8:30, so there must have been some other hungry residents present.

One special lady celebrated a birthday too. It was a great way to start a Saturday. To be fair we should invite some competion to make more presentations.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL

This has taken us almost to kick off time, but the guys have responded.

The had a couple of hot games to offer as the best to watch this weekend. The one the had a common interest in is "Bama." Alabama's Crimson Tide is the choice to win over UK. We'll see what happens here.

HAVE A LAUGH

A grandfather was delivering his grandchildren to their home one day when a fire engine zoomed past. Sitting in the front seat of the fire engine was a Dalmatian dog.
The children started discussing the dog's duties. "They use him to keep crowds back," said one child.
"No," said another. "He's just for good luck."
A third child brought the argument to a close."They use
the dogs," she said firmly, "to find the fire hydrants."

COLLEGE FOOTBALL

Here it is another Saturday, and it is time for College Football. It should be obvious that this posting relies on the input of "our" local expert and the guy from up North.

They have done quite a bit of yacking this week and based on that the game to watch is our Miami Hurricanes. They have had two quick wins, and are in the top 10 feeling pretty good about themselve. Let's see what happens here in week three.

By the way the experts are split on this one. Hope this isn't a Friday Night Game.

CERT MEETING TONIGHT

Our Community Volunteers that make up our CERT Team will have their monthly meeting tonight at Town Center. Meeting is at 7:00 PM

GOOD IDEAS THAT ARE STILL APPROPRIATE

"You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich. You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong. You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift. You cannot lift the wage earner up by pulling the wage payer down. You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred. You cannot build character and courage by taking away people's initiative and independence. You cannot help people permanently by doing for them, what they could and should do for themselves."

COLLEGE GAME TO WATCH

One of the "experts" seems to have lost his way this week, but a friend from Michigan (via Tennessee) and our world famous "other guy" have both said the game to watch this week is Florida's Gators vs those Volunteers.

The guys split on who will win, so this week the choice is up to you kids, friends and neighbors.

SCHOOL BELL RINGS

A couple of days ago that little girl from New Providence (NJ), often referred to as "The Princess," went to school for the very first time. Her mom snapped the above picture to share with our local gang. Hope you enjoy it.

ANOTHER VALENTINA CT STREET PARTY

Activity continues on Valentina Ct. Another Street Party went into the books this past Sunday (9-13).

Despite favorite teams kicking off several couples met at the usual driveway and enjoyed snacks, drink and conversation. Rumor has it that the party continued into the evening hours.

Always good to get the gang together and have some fun.

KARAOKE

Don't forget KARAOKE tonight.

Entertainment to be provided by our local DJ and some of our fellow residents. This is a BYOB and something for the table event and will be at Town Center.

These dances are always a good time.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL

The "experts" have gone astray in only the second week of the fun pick of the week. One guy has four choices for "The Best Game," and another had to be called a couple times just to get his one choice.

There seems to be a consensus that Notre Dame is going to beat Michigan, so that will be our game of the week. There is also strong vibes that USC beats Ohio. Lets see how this turns out later on today.

REMEMBER 9/11

Today marks the eighth anniversary of the attack on the Twin Towers in New York City. It seems like only yesterday, and it is a day that is still in the front of my mind. Let us not forget. If you wish click below to relive that horrible day.

BACK FROM ALASKA

The Lady and her guy are back. The care taker of the blog has been again retired.

Alaska was an adventure. We got over 200 pictures, and a ton of memories, but the Lady said to only post one. Someone has her ear. So here is one of Mt McKinley.

It was a rare treat to actually see this magnificent mountain as it is usually covered by clouds. Hope you enjoy it.

AT THE POOL FOR LABOR DAY

It seemed like it was a Sunday, but this was Monday, September 7, 2009 - LABOR DAY. We gathered, with friends and family at the Town Center Pool to enjoy the afternoon.

There were quite a few residents here. They came to hear some nice old tunes, chat with neighbors, and just relax for a couple of hours.

The young kids had a great time. They kicked and splashed while the adults listened to the music. There were no unhappy faces in the crowd as everyone had a great time.
