A REMINDER: LOCK DOORS, AND SET ALARMS

There has been a report on TV, and the web, in regards to our "sister community" in Bonita Springs. Apparently a Village Walk Home was robbed by two men. The incident took place yesterday.

A single resident, a woman, was in her home when the intruders entered. The story indicates that two men, in masks, forced their way into the home. There were no injuries per Lee County Sheriff's Officer Tony Schall.

While this is scary, it is also is a reminder for residents to lock doors and set their alarms.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN

My Lady friend asked that HAPPY HALLOWEEN wishes be extended to our kids, neighbors. friends and especially to a special group of little guys.

This picture is from the hills of New Jersey. We are told it is Spiderman.

V.W.
doesn't know who the tall guy is behind the kid. He looks like a meal in the making. We'll see him for sure on Thansgiving.

LAST FOOTBALL IN OCTOBER

Another week has run to "the right downfield," and this little guy wants to do the weekend kick off. Maybe he will settle for his picture here. He has no picks. Thank God. Now for the end of October we have some serious picks from our experts.

First, The Local Guy is talking about Ohio State in a blowout. He really is hoping for a "blown tire" on the bus and cancellation of the game. They will have it tough this weekend.

Right from the man's keyboard: 1. South Carolina over Tennessee 2. Florida over Georgia 3. Georgia Tech over Florida State 4. Virginia over Miami. Further he states: "I picked four games this week because I got lucky last week and got all three correct and I don't want people to think I know something."

From the mountains of Jersey the Viking Warrior, and his "little guy," have given up on Michigan teams and pick Air Force to "bomb" Army. He's nuts! He also says Minnesota will win over Northwestern; and Colorado beats up on Tecxas A & M.

VALENTINA CT. PICNIC

Despite "Mother Nature" sending a chill

it did not interfere with neighbors getting together to chat and enjoy each others' company for a couple of hours.

Sweaters and wine took care of the Fall temperature, and chips, candy, and cup cakes put a smile on everyone.

Twenty - Two people attended this event on Wednesday the 29th and seemed ready to do it again - soon.

PARROTS

V.W. Resident has a friend living in here in "The Walk." The friend has a huge heart and really cares for animals and birds. He has taught this writer quite a bit about the woods around our development, and the wildlife that co-exists with us. I thought of the beautiful birds he has when I caught up with these guys a few days ago in Disney. Hope "you'all" like the picture.

PLANTS HAVE ARRIVED

My V.W. Neighbor is marking Oct. 22,2008 on her calendar. It was a day of celebration. The plants that she had been waiting for since last Christmas finally arrived.

They are in the ground, and already look good. A little water everyday, along with sun and rain, they will do well.

It took the workers less than 15 minutes to erase the frustration that was felt over the last several months. This included making phone calls, filling out request forms, sending email, waiting for the rainy season and so on.

The frustration is now gone. It feels good.

HALLOWEEN DANCE MEMORIES

Halloween for the second year at V.W.Town Center: It was another BLAST.

The pictures above are only a few memories from that great night.

The party included "guests" from all over the world. We had Austin Powers & Co. If he got into any trouble there was a doctor in the house. Dr. Ben Dover, in blue, surely could help get to the "bottom" of any problem.

Around the horn we see a young lady with "a bad dental plan." They were carefully watched over by the "Princess of Activities," and our friend from the Orient.'

Trying to behave was our camera guy dressed as a "Professional Photographer," He stayed way to the left in case "Fonzi" decided to spin around on the dance floor on a Harley.

Rounding out the memories is our Entertainers, and some very happy couples.

SATURDAY'S FOOTBALL

Wow the week went fast. The good news is The Viking Warrior is awake and has sent us his picks for Saturday College Foot Ball. Naturally his first involves another Michigan team (s). He says: Michigan State falls to Michigan; Oklahoma goes wild on Kansas; and "our" Florida whips Kentucky. The Warrior says he is having a super year with his picks.

Our local prognosticator offers these three choices. First he cries is that Ohio St will fall to Penn State ! That might be wishful thinking. He also says most emphaticly that Texas Tech will win over Kansas; and Georgia will up end LSU.

Our pick is the local movie theater.

A RIDE WITH GERONIMO IN THE WOODS

V.W.Resident has a friend in "The Walk" who loves to hit the trails that surround our quaint little village. He is easy to spot in his jungle green golf cart, known to a few of us as "The Jungle Cruiser." We call him GERONIMO.

A few days back Geronimo offered to show our publisher the beauty in the woods that surround us. He claims to have seen Florida Panther 147 and promised to get real close for our camera.

Before heading out the publisher insisted that the golf cart stay behind and we travel in an alternative vehicle. We let him drive as part of the deal. He did well, in that we all made it back in one piece.

The tour of the woodlands seemed like forever; and we did not see Florida Panther 147. What a bummer. On the way back Geronimo pointed out this beautiful creature. He said it was a very rare "Glades Deer." Click,Click, Click went our camera. One good picture for our work.

Truth be told: Geronimo is alive and does live here; but he was a couple of hundred miles away when these pictures were taken for our use. Hope the kids and neighbors like these pictures. Just maybe Geronimo will get us in position to offer some more pictures of animals.

HALOWEEN DANCE AT TOWN CENTER

Well here we are again. Another year has gone by and we are back to the fun October has to offer.

This pumpkin was grown in the fertile soil behind V.W. Resident's hacienda. It was cultivated with Lake Water, Walmart soil, Miricle Grow, and a huge imagination. The guy on top is our guard. He is there to protect the pumpkin and to remind us to attend the Dance at Town Center this Saturday.

HEY NAPLES: DON'T FORGET US GUYS

Oh Boy, a new baby in the family and these 'guys' run to the stone wall to actually pose for a picture. They want everyone to know that they want some "blog" time too.

The Mom had her camera handy, and was very eager to help give these kids there wish.

OK, guys you have been blogged by V.W. Resident down here in the Everglades. Now get back to doing homework and helping around your mountain home.

OOPS, BE CAREFUL BY THE WATER

The guys did it again.

The green mower go too close to the waterway and needed help getting out. Help was there within five minutes, and both machines continued their work shortly thereafter. Give them a high five for their efforts today.

Good work guys.

CERT TEAM CERTIFIED

After six weeks of training, and one hurricane, the Verona Walk CERT team had a 'disaster drill/test' on Saturday, October 18, 2008. Our community had nearly thirty graduates. This was a great number considering it is still "off season."

For the final test our team responded to an area devastated by a tornado. No homes went down, thanks to steel re-enforcing rods. We did find fire, downed trees, injured victims, electrical hazards etc. One 'dummy' lost his leg, but was repaired by a handy responder using 'crazy glue.'

The class entered the target area and took care of the fires. Following the 'fire suppression' team the 'search', and 'medical teams' entered the action spot. They found and treated victims, saving everyone.

Following the drill our CERT unit responded to Town Center for a well deserved lunch, and collection of graduation certificates.

Many thanks to East Naples Fire District and their staff for providing trainers and equipment.

BABY REPORT FROM JERSEY

Just in by means of that electronic machine (computer) a couple of pictures of the new baby.

That is Mom on top. She is doing real well, and by time this hits the blog site she will be home. She is one happy girl. Baby boy looks happy too.

The guy is Dad. He is also excited and very proud. That's Katelyn on his lap holding her little brother. She approves of him and can't wait to get him home to play.

Thanks to my "Lady friend" for these contributions to this blog.

THE WEEKLY COLLEGE GAMES

Our local expert has submitted his top three picks for this weekends' football games. Mind you this resident seems to watch at least a half dozen games per week, and know almost every player by name. He is good, but I wouldn't put on money on his picks. None the less He says: LSU will romp over South Carolina; Ohio State will 'rip up' Michigan State; and Clemson will make its' new coach look good as they beat Georgia Tech.

The Viking Warrior reportedly has been sleeping and could only be heard to say Michigan State will play tough over Ohio St.

No prediction on that other team - Wallkill Valley. If they win I am sure we will hear about.

Have a good weekend - enjoy the games.

FINAL CERT CLASS SATURDAY

Get on the Bus for the last day of school.

Although there will be no bus ride, there will be plenty of classroom instruction in the final exercise for the Verona Walk CERT Class. This one will be on Saturday October18

The class, as usual, will be in Town Center - 9:oo am

FROM NEW JERSEY: "IT'S A BOY"

My Lady friend across the street just ran over to let V.W. Resident know that she now has grandchild number eleven. I guess she is a collector.

The facts are that baby Connor arrived around 7:00 PM on October 14. The kid has 10 fingers and ten toes and is a health 5.7 pounds.

It was reported that the lad enjoyed a visit from his big sister Katelyn who was quite excited to have a "playmate." She even gave her brother "her: teddy bear.

Mom and Connor will be going home on Thursday. Best Wishes from this corner of the world.

ONE FOR A LAUGH

  • A man and a woman who have never met before find themselves in the same sleeping carriage of a train.

After the initial embarrassment they both go to sleep, the woman on the top bunk, the man on the lower.

In the middle of the night the woman leans over, wakes the man and says, "I'm sorry to bother you, but I'm awfully cold and I was wondering if you could possibly get me another blanket."

The man leans out and, with a glint in his eye, says, "I've got a better idea... just for tonight, let's pretend we're married."

The woman thinks for a moment. "Why not," she giggles.

"Great," he replies, "Get your own damn blanket!"

OUR PANTHER IS SAFE TO RIDE

Hey, Did you hear all that talk about the Florida Panther that lives in the Reserve surrounding "The Walk?" Be aware of these Cats, and do not for a minute think they are safe, or try and pet one. Respect them ! They can bite.

Of course Kids never listen (some adults too). They just have to have some fun with the wild beasts.

The picture is of a 'little princess' hat found a good way to have some fun with the V.W. Panther. She and the cat made us smile. Of course she just might say she was being chased by a Bear. Who knows.

FOOTBALL PROGNOSIS

Wow, I am impressed with this post. I am actually using big words to impress 'you all' with the top picks from that wonderful V.W. Neighbor and from the Viking Warrior. Both guys know football, but they should also keep their day jobs.

The Warrior could only mumble a couple during his "phone in" session and he says: Oklahoma big time (Is this their off week?), and all big Michigan teams.

The neighbor guy was busy but was heard saying one team - Ohio State will fall big time! That is his weekly wish. He does think the Sooners are for real.

SOME INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT THE GEORGE WASHINGTON BRIDGE

For our friends in New Jersey, did you know that your bridge is the busiest bridge in the world.

It was completed in 1931 connecting Fort Lee, and Fort Washington (that's in N.Y.).

Thinking about dollars this bridge hauls in around $400 million dollars per year. That's a huge price to sit in your car and look at the Hudson River.

The weirdest traffic accident on the bridge occurred in 1965. According to information given to V.W. Neighbor a small plane was running out of gas. The pilot decided to land on the bridge. He made his approach heading West (torwards NJ). From all accounts it was a perfect landing, however the plane overtook a slow moving truck and there was a rear end collision. This actually happened.

The lesson here is 'Don't drive a slow moving truck on the GWB, and always check your rear view mirror for light aircraft.

BEFORE, AND AFTER, LANDSCAPE REPORT

Over the last few weeks the landscape workers have been going up and down the streets here in "The Walk" with mulch and plants. When they leave things look much better; and over all they get a green thumbs up. They deserve a solid "B" (85) for there efforts.

They lost points on V.W.Resident's score card for not removing the weeds in this plant bed first, and then a few more for not bring the replacement plants as promised months ago. Donde esta la planticias?

Despite the points off they worked hard and in a very effective manner. One must say they were very well organized, and the plants will come "manana."

RESCUE ME - CERT CLASS MONDAY

Help, Help. Someone call 9-11.

Our scene is safe. Start CPR... 30-2...get AED.

That's a quick summation of what was taught last monday at the C.E.R.T. class held at Town Center.

Next class is Monday, Oct 6, 2008 - 6:00pm

POSSIBLE CASINO TRIP LATE OCTOBER

If anyone is interested in another Casino Trip make a note: It is under consideration. Call CI Travel and let Diane know of your interest. We just might fill up the bus again, and win all that we left there the last time.

OCTOBER FOOTBALL PICKS

Our Friends near and far have advised this 'blogster' that they see the following games as their best picks to win. We are not keeping a close watch on their success, but it seems like they are 50/50. Thank God there is no money involved.

The V.W. NEIGHBOR picks: Oklahoma rolls over Baylor; Miami over Florida State; and Texas trounces Kansas.

From the North the Viking Warrior says: Boise State over Louisiana Tech, and Western Michigan (There is a College there?) sticking it to Ohio, while the Sooners of Oklahoma beat up big time on Baylor.

So they say, and not a word on Wallkill Valley.

OCTOBER BASEBALL

Wow it's that time of the year again. Playing baseball for league championships and ultimately the chance to play in the World Series.

For the last 20 years this V.W. Resident has had nothing to cheer about, except seeing the Yankees lose.

This year my team is in the playoff's. I can't cheer to loud as the little guy above is one of those Red Sox fans. He thinks he may play for them in about ten years.

On the plus side his mom is in " Dodger Blue" giving me inspiration that "my bums" might be for real this year. I hope so. And I also hope my wife doesnt find the remote so I can enjoy seeing the game.

NAPLES ZOO: FIRST SATURDAY FREE

Hey friends here is a reminder. The Naples Zoo offers free admission on the first Saturday of the month. That is only a couple of days away.

My neighbor went a couple of times this year with the little guy. It keeps him busy while mom does the shopping thing.
