A member of our Safety Team sent this piece of information to us. It hits home.
Can you count the number of times You may have compromised your ID by not disposing of a Room Key Card properly?
That Key Card may (revised 10/24/11) have this information on it that includes: Your Name, Your Home Address, Your Hotel Room Number, and. Your Credit Card Number with expiration date.
That Key Card may (revised 10/24/11) have this information on it that includes: Your Name, Your Home Address, Your Hotel Room Number, and. Your Credit Card Number with expiration date.
This is what is suggested. KEEP THE CARDS. Take them home with you, or destroy them. NEVER leave them behind in the room or room wastebasket, and NEVER turn them into the front desk.Take the Key Card and destroy it by cutting it up, especially through the electronic information strip!
YOUR personal information is on that card so guard it and dispose of it in a way that protects you.

A reader checked this information on Snopes. He determined that this information was an error. It started in 2003 by on over zealous detective in Pasadana Ca. The Detective sent an email to fellow detectives warning them that personal information may get placed on room key cards. The key word is "May". The email got out to the public and has had an ongoing life. Bottom line is "destruction" of your room key card is good for "piece of mind", but hotels have also taken solid safety precautions. - Thanks Reader
