SOME INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT THE GEORGE WASHINGTON BRIDGE

For our friends in New Jersey, did you know that your bridge is the busiest bridge in the world.

It was completed in 1931 connecting Fort Lee, and Fort Washington (that's in N.Y.).

Thinking about dollars this bridge hauls in around $400 million dollars per year. That's a huge price to sit in your car and look at the Hudson River.

The weirdest traffic accident on the bridge occurred in 1965. According to information given to V.W. Neighbor a small plane was running out of gas. The pilot decided to land on the bridge. He made his approach heading West (torwards NJ). From all accounts it was a perfect landing, however the plane overtook a slow moving truck and there was a rear end collision. This actually happened.

The lesson here is 'Don't drive a slow moving truck on the GWB, and always check your rear view mirror for light aircraft.
